The year is 2401. At the dawn of the 25th century, Starfleet wishes to return to it's normal exploration duties. The flurry of the Dominion War, the Borg invasion, the synthetic Attack on Mars, and the Romulan sun going supernova, the Federation has had decades of turmoil and war to distract it from what it always aspired too.
To that end, Starfleet is taking its first tentative steps of stepping down from crisis mode to peacetime activities. The Nova class starship, the USS Artemis, has been chosen to resume exploration of the Gamma Quadrant via the Bajoran wormhole. Naturally, as the Nova class is built for shorter duration missions, it is based out of Deep Space 9, which it is to return too every three months for repair, resupply, and shore leave. Part of the decision to utilize the USS Artemis, is Starfleet is currently unwilling to risk so many resources at this time on this venture. An older ship, albeit one with an excellent service record, with a smaller crew is much less of a waste of officers and material should the worse happen. They certainly can't afford to lose many Odyssey-class or Inquiry class ships at the moment. And so the enviable job of exploration falls to the Artemis.
Under a new captain, and a new crew, she will travel to the the Gamma Quadrant, and see what mysteries and wonders await the intrepid explorers of the USS Artemis...
