Halford is a full time academic but only in the areas about which he is passionate.   Full time doesn't mean thats generally what he does, instead he takes it very seriously starting at 6am taking a long lunch then a nap and ending at 5pm.  He is an essentialist which is clear as soon as you enter his living environment: a bare bones living space with nothing extraneous but the best of everything he needs and uses.  He sometimes goes too far in his studies such that he knows exactly what to do but has some reservations actually DOING it.
