OOC: Day 2

In reply to Thelonius Xander (msg # 11):

You'd most likely have a huge malus anyway since it's a small and young (10-15 years) foreign House :p

OOC: Day 2

General Knowledge on Magic:
The feeling about magic is all based on personal experience with it.
Generally most don't like it because many magic users tend to abuse it.
Magic items are very valuable and if not directly part of a guild or religious order etc etc. as a commoner you will most likely never own one.

Simple magic items are often confused with master work items. A +3 sword with a gem or two can be mistaken for a fancy rich nobles's weapon, and not for what it really is.

There is the College of Magic, which is without a second guess the largest and has the most influence over people, items and knowledge on magic in all Tellene.

OOC: Day 2

In reply to Narrator (msg # 13):

By College of Magic, you mean the one in Pekal? Or does Kalamar also have a College?

Edit: can Esparam request books that would act as Masterwork tools ? +2 to a skill, I'm thinking Spellcraft and Knowledge (arcana). PHB says 50gp and 1 lb for such tools (1 lb seems too light for books though).

I don't see why not but the cost could be more based on availability i would need to do more research on it.

‘Post Freely’

I also recommend reading our RTJ threads it has info on how to post so the flow moves a little faster.

Once day 2 is over I will post to move things along.

Re: OOC: Day 2

Attention to all players that just jumped into IC (In Character). Please describe your character in relatively full detail when we first meet. Obviously our characters haven't met yet so it would help tremendously if you described your appearance and other relative facts. Example...

Thelonius is strong and athletic looking. He's wearing his aspis, bronze armor, kopis and dagger and has his helm held in his right hand. He has short, well groomed curly brownish red hair and a slightly hawkish nose. His skin is a tanned olive and he’s got piercing steel gray eyes.

Standing at 6' 3" and 220 lbs, Thelonius looks every bit the Imperial Hoplite. He wears the black and purple uniform of the Imperial Guard.

Later after he changed out of his armor and into civilian clothes...

He walks to the tavern and enters. A young nobleman with a strong athletic build, 6' 3", steel gray eyes, a tanned olive complexion, a chiseled face with a slightly hawkish nose and short, well groomed brownish red hair. He is wearing a white tunic with a silver trim of Greco design. A blue cloak adorns his shoulders and back. On an ornate leather belt hangs a kopis, a dagger, and a money purse. Open toe sandals on his feet.

If you don't want to add as much detail as I did that's cool, just give us a description.

Thanks :)

Re: OOC: Day 2

What if we have a description up in our character details? We should be able to click on each other's name and take us to our character details page. As mine will show the following:

Height: ~5'6"
Weight: ~200#
Hair Color: Bald
Handeness: Left

Description: Tarrano is possibly the shortest hobgoblin you've seen standing around five and half feet tall, barrel chested with broad shoulders and squat legs. His bald head shows off his clay-red skin color other than a long scar that runs from his right ear down along his chest that has discolored to white since when ever he received it. He dresses in dark green travelers outfit with a well worn dark brown studded leather armour. A pair of daggers adorn each hip, with a quiver and shortsword paired with each, he holds a shortbow in his hand.

Common Knowledge: Tarrano hails from a small tribe of hobgoblins from the Brindonwoods and served as part of the tribes scout force in various ambush of the elven & human tribes and cities near by. He is attentive to
details and reactive to danger, always on alert. Talks about returning
home to claim his rightful place one day.

Fluff: Tends not to think much of humans and others but begrudgenly
works with them as a it meets his needs.

That's what the character description field is for. But I can go cut and paste it into my post if you like.

In reply to Tarrano Grazlak (msg # 18):

I like your idea but for the storyline thread it would be more useful for us to describe in IC.

We can copy and paste our description from the 'Description' section of our character sheets if that helps or we could just rewrite it.

However, we should also try your idea as it has merit.

Re: OOC: Day 2

I'm not going to re-post Esparam's description, but I updated the character bio with info that was spread out in IC.
Also added estimations of DC for Knowledge(nobility) checks for the purpose of determining whether characters may know more about Esparam by hearing his family name. I would say +5 if Pekalese, +2 if Tokis nobility (as foes). Also, a Know Local check to understand the meaning of his robes.
Caladin, let me know if you think those DCs should be different.

Re: OOC: Day 2

I don't do bonuses to checks I do lower DCs

so, if they are from Pekal the DC is 8 to know info on you and or family by name etc - DC 5 if they are Nobility from Pekal.

if from neighboring areas DC is 10 and if a Noble from a neighboring area DC 8

All others DC 15

below is some info on how I base DCs

I'm going to wait for Titus Aurelius to react to Thelonius and Esparam before reacting to Eldon.

I would not wait to long. I will continue if not responded too in under 24 hrs as per the game guildlines

We have a group, so its time to put it together and everyone needs to post in 24 hrs or get NPCed or passed up.

Yes, I meant more the character (played by either player or DM), for the coherence of the RP and to avoid the exchanges getting to confusing.
And I agree: 24 hours is up (he hasn't posted anything since last weekend).

Re: OOC: Day 2

In reply to Narrator (msg # 34):

No question, just translating Esparam's request in ingame, technical terms, so that you know, as a GM, what Esparam is asking, and whether Thelonius can provide them or not, based on rarity and cost. Magnifying glass is a premade item (100gp), while the books would be custom Masterwork tools (50gp up for DM approval according to PHB).

it's true I mixed up the OOC spoiler with a private line.

Re: OOC: Day 2

In reply to Esparam (msg # 35):

ok, so far I don't see anything that I would have to worry about for items and gear.

As long as every keeps it to non-magical and low on the rarity list it all should be fine.
