Jednesa will cautiously open the door, gently pushing or pulling as needed (if it's locked she won't force it, yet).

the book is bound in heavy to poi led leather with brass inlay and closures.
it is locked with a small padlock.

the door on the other hand, may need some assistance, as it appears jammed, both the hinges and the locking mechanism are warped.

Masugatan searches the book for small wires or anything else that looks like it might trigger a trap.

19:41, Today: Masugatan rolled 10 using 3d6.  Search for traps.

"Okay."

Jednesa takes a half step back, then forward and carefully puts her foot on the door.  Then again but smoothly, but still carefully; then she steps back, takes a deep breath, lets it out in a growl as she steps and kicks the door stoutly!

OOC:  All-Out Attack (Strong), Kicking door, no need to attack roll (DFRPG pg 22).

18:35, Today: Jednesa rolled 15 using 3d6+6.  Door Bashing damage 3d+6.

Doors as objects for bashing are listed on DFRPG pg 82

"Got something you want to glow like a torch for several days?"

Whatever Emma chooses to be lit, the younger sister will hold it while she casts, then hand it back.

[Private to GM: 18:16, Today: Elaina Grattan rolled 4 using 3d6.  Continual Light (torch) (13).  Crit!  No fatigue cost, anything else special?]

Re: The Alchemist's Lair

"Jednesa see okay without light," she answers Emma's question and goes back to opening the door...

Narrator:
door opens outward btw, but was buckled outward to you

If there is space, Jednesa will slip the edge of her handaxe/mace into a crack and try to pry it open enough to get her fingers around an edge and pull it open (yanking, jerking, heaving, etc), otherwise she snarls and kicks it again.

Whichever way works for you, I rolled 'em:

18:34, Today: Jednesa rolled 10 using 3d6.  Forcing the Door, Quick Contest ST 24 vs Lock's ST 12.  MoS +14.

18:34, Today: Jednesa rolled 17 using 3d6+6.  Door Bashing damage.  3d+6.

And yes, it is disconcerting to the Player that the door is buckled outward, so something hit it hard enough to dent it, while Jednesa isn't strong enough do so in return (at least not without getting angry at the door)...  Jednesa doesn't seem to notice though.

He reminds himself to make fun of himself later.  How civil he has become lately.  This behavior was unbecoming of a street punk.

Uncertain what else to do with the torch, Masugatan tries juggling it.  He’d wanted to try this ever since he saw a man do it at a street fair many long summers ago.

05:07, Today: Masugatan rolled 11 using 3d6.  Juggle torch.  (My Dex -4 is 9.)

"Holiness!!  Fire!"

Even as she calls for her older sister, the younger sister steps forward, gesturing as she speaks a couple quiet words.  Water pours from her hand onto the dusty bed; she attempts to direct the flow so as to douse both torch and smoldering bedding.
