Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Seeing the creature was about to get into striking range, Krackor strode forward, shield displaying the flaming eyes of his devine lord, battle axe in his main hand. With the Glory of Gorm upon him, the Guardian Priest swings but it seems the creature didn't like being blind so moved as the battle axe came down.

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Backstab this Behir!

I’ll voluntarily go last in the round so I don’t get shot, and thus forego rolling initiative.

08:14, Today: Corym Ildroun rolled 4 using 1d8.
08:09, Today: Corym Ildroun rolled 8 using 1d20.  Backstab!

8 + 4 (blindness) + 4 (backstab) = 16

THAC0 14 means I hit AC -2?

Damage (4 x 3) + 1 = 13

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Round 2

Elorfindar waves his hands, calling upon Labelas to slow the sands of time. The thrashing, blinded head of the monster begins to move as though it's gyrating under water. Every movement is ponderous and graceful, and seemingly only accentuates the power that lurks behind the massive jaws and many limbs.

Sirenya darts around the right flank. Her invisibility spell breaks as she stabs at its side, but its thrashing throws her aim off. Krackor advances, striking at the beast's flank. Even blind, it would have managed to evade his strike, but the magical slowness keeps it in line just long enough for the blow to land. It sinks through the scales, and dark blood pulses as he pulls it out. In the same moment, two arrows come streaking in from the southwest, slamming into the creature's neck.

The creature, its eyes milky, swings its head towards where it last saw Krackor. Its jaws unhinge unnaturally wide and with a roar it unleashes a bolt of lightning. The crackling thunder races over Krackor, Katarn, and Kora (who manages to twist somewhat out of its way). ((ooc: Krackor and Katarn, save vs. breath weapon, please. Success means you take 12 damage. Failure means you take 24.))

Katarn staggers under the lightning and stumbles forward, closing with the beast. He flails at the creature's legs and chest with his morning star, cracking the scales and drawing blood. His spectral warhammer swings at the beast's head, but glances off the scales harmlessly.

Picking herself up off the ground, Kora spits blood and draws her great sword. "Tempus take you," she growls, and stumbles towards it. Her shaking limbs can't bring her sword into line, however, and she throws up a big clod of dirt as the blade sinks into the ground.

Corym circles the opposite side of the creature as Sireyna. He takes his time to line up his strike, and when he stabs it's with effect. The beast shudders and roars as it throws its head up in agony.

Its roar is answered. You turn your heads to the north and see a second creature, its pale blue scales shimmering in the light, charging down the path towards you. Its mouth is open and its claws are churning in its haste.

((ooc: The first creature is looking really bad. The new one is about a hundred and sixty feet away from you. Dorian is behind the tree on the bottom left edge of the map. Actions and initiative for Round 3!))

Seeing the new threat Dorian switched targets without hesitation.  With little other warning than a slight buzz in the air his arrows streaked toward the new threat.

Assuming the sting of his arrows gets the new creature's attention Dorian stepped out of hiding to attract the new beasts ire away from the other combatants before slipping back behind the tree, he was not enamored of the idea of being blasted by its breath weapon.

Seeing the creature turn its attention on him, crouching small behind his shield, Krackor braced himself against the creatures ire. The lightning striking his shield protected him as the the residual energy covered his whole being.

He returned to stand, this slowed him but he was prepared. Striking, he was glad the creature was blind.

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Having seen the devastating effect of the creature's lightning breath, Elorfindar decided to attempt to halt its brethren's advance. He quickly pulled a thin piece of string onto which seven thorns were tied from one of his belt pouches and began casting.
Then, not knowing whether how intelligent the monsters were, he shouted first in Elven, then repeated in Dwarven: "Beware hidden spikes on the ground," pointing towards the area affected by his spell.

((OOC: Casts Spike Growth, the area of effect covering a 20-foot-wide, 40-feet-long 'corridor' about halfway between the two behirs, in the likely path of the second behir towards our group between the centre-left tree and the big tree trunk lying on the ground, of course being careful not to include Dorian (I hope this makes sense); initiative: 8+6=14.))

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Round 3

Corym and Sirenya gang up on the severely injured reptile and cut it down. As it falls, Kora takes a look at the onrushing second monster and back us to the southwest, putting a tree between it and her.

It turns out to be a smart move. Roaring even louder than before, the newcomer charges forward, mouth gaping. It pulls up about fifteen feet from you and breaths crackling electricity over Katarn, Krackor, and Elorfindar. Katarn relaxes into the essence of his god; the other two jerk and singe. Elorfindar's spell fizzles as his teeth convulsively chatter, while Katarn feels Marthammor's wanderer's spirit settle about his shoulders and slow the world before his eyes. ((ooc: I did not purposefully design the first combat encounter to showcase one of Katarn's nicer kit perks, but there it is. Krackor and Elorfindar, saves vs. breath weapon, please. Success means 12 points of damage, failure means 24.))

Further to the southwest, Dorian takes aim at the new threat and shoots it twice more. The creature is huge and its hide not particularly hard; both arrows slam home.

((ooc: The first monster is very dead. The second is very eager to end your lives. Actions for Round 4))

Dorian slings his bow and draws his Elvish swords, their blades sparkle in the light of Lathander's Sun.  The Elf rushes toward the remaining beast.  In an effort to draw the creature's attention away from his singed friends Dorian taunted the thing "Your mate is dead, beast, prepare to join it in the Abyss!"

OOC: Not sure if I can reach it this round.

((OOC: Saving throw failed... Very basic question which occurs to me just now, having looked at the staff sling's range: is it really true that *any* range weapon 'fired' at medium range gets a -2 penalty on attack rolls? That would mean that my staff sling, which cannot be used at short range if I understand it correctly, always gets at least -2? Oh dear...))

His morningstar crashed down on the behir, two strokes in quick succession crunched into the beast. He called the hammer of force to combat the beast as well, but its stroke flew wide.
