Anyone want to do a random roll?  I need a Will save for Valan -- d20+8, DC 17.

21:34, Wed 19 Nov 2014: Garflin rolled 18 using 1d20+8 ((10)).

Just made it.

Okay, you win.

I think this is the opening scene (played over the opening credits) of Torei Chainsaw Massacre.

DON'T give her ideas... we're the ones stuck with her.

Re: Random roll needed

Okay, all, I need a grapple check by Finnella (because Valan is a 3.5 character, for him I do not use the CMB/CMD Pathfinder model):  d20+7, DC 19 (since he has the higher grapple modifier, she has to actually beat his total roll of 18 to avoid being grappled).

And just thinking ahead -- also roll a d20+13 for a pre-emptive Escape Artist check in case she fails to beat his grapple.

In reply to Amira (msg # 685):

Ha!

That's why I ask for the rolls here -- it eliminates the oh-so-tempting urge to just fudge that result simply to be able to laugh laugh laugh at Valan as he hits the ground face-first.

This is why I have my 'pink die' when I DM. Most of my rolls are complete garbage when I DM, but when I'm in the mood to kill my characters, I bust out my pink die, and proceed to roll 20s.

The other day, I used it to get 2 20s and a 19 in a row. All on one character.

Re: Random roll needed

In our old group, one of the guys who GMed had "The Marble."

It was a much used D20, with edges eroding, that was working its way toward being spherical.    Once rolled, it would kind of meander, and take a bit longer to come to a stop, than a young, healthy D20 does.

It seemed to prefer 19, 18, 13(always nice for effect, when it just barely hits or misses) 6, 4, and 1.  And 00.   Which was funny...as it did not come up 10 or 20 too often.

Everyone dreaded that die coming out!  Usually near the end of the game, almost always during some crisis.    Didn't natter if you needed high or low.   It was very good at serving what you didn't want.

Sometimes, in nightmares, I see that die rising in a Halloween sky, like some macabre bad-moon.

Re: Random roll needed

Okay, that's the six threads I told myself I had to get to today.  I'm off to catch a train home.  Tonight, I also hope to hit:

  • Amira, et al
  • Tara

As of the time of this post, no other threads are ready for me (though I could progably post an interim thing for Anansi and Liss, even while waiting for Garflin and Konrad to chime in).

Re: Random roll needed

Where is the fun in that? Wait strike that.

It is more fun to first mess with his mind, confidence and beliefs. You do not fight an opponent that has the advantage, first you make him make a mistake. After that, you clobber him over the head with it, or in this case, since you asked, the "yarblies".

Though I don't think it will come to that... hopefully.

Was it accidentally subconsciously on purpose?
Is it Jordan Stryer? That would be funny.

No, the NPC name is one that has been used since long before any association between the attorney and the firm.  And Stryer Jordan is of recent vintage, name selected only when needed for your storyline.

Does anyone know if we're allowed to research unique spells and such? Because I need Animate Hair.

There's a Witch hex that does something like that.
I've been toying with the idea of a male witch for a while now, only to use that hex with a moustache.

I believe a Sorcerer is the only type of class that may come up with some oddly spells so quick and easy.

If I do remember the rules for it correctly, it doesn't matter what your class is.

What you want to do with the spell is the determinator of its research requirements.

Whether it is arcane or divine, its school, types, subtypes, effect and/or damage potential, range, whether or not it is sustained, material requirements, etc.

Re: Weird moment of the day

I think it matters as to which game system your character is also created.

3.5 or Pathfinder?

Re: Weird moment of the day

Pathfinder has options for researching/designing new spells.  It's not limited to wizards.  It is unclear to me (as I've not been asked for leave to design new spells, and haven't thought about whether I'd welcome going down that rabbit-hole) how this would work for an alchemist (such as Bell) -- rather than researching a new spell, she would be researching a new formula.  Would the witch's prehensile hair hex be something that is equivalent to an extract?
There's also "strangling hair" which is a third-level wizard/sorcerer spell in Pathfinder.

And the 3.5 Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide also cover spell research by different classes.

Need a random roll

Valan is attempting to pin Finnella.  He'll probably succeed, but let's see -- someone roll a d20+7.  She needs a 25 to avoid being pinned.

Nevermind.  Done by the spouse.
