Re: Portrait Identification Chat

I love you! I have been using that portrait for a character for something like 5 years and I would go searching for her every few months or so and never had any luck. This is such a wonderful moment for me. Which sounds ridiculous, really but I'm so super happy right now.

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

Glad you're happy. :)

Still trying to fill in fmr holes.

fmr025 is model Natacha Senechal
fmr053 is model Yasmeen Ghauri
fmr056 is model/actress Milla Jovovich

fmr064 shows up with someone on elfwood by the name of Marie Gioertz, but I don't know if that's her. Based on her listed age and that this would have been posted here quite a while ago, I really doubt it's her.

fmr067 is actress Cate Blanchett

fmr068 seems to be singer/actress Idina Menzel. I managed to get the original photo, though it was really difficult and it didn't come with a name the way I grabbed it. But it was attached to her and looks like a younger her, so it's probably her. I have no idea what show that would be, though. I can post that photo if it helps.

fmr071 is football/soccer player Casey Stoney
fmr090 is the musician Toshiya

And while I'm at it I'll confirm the correct guess at the mystery of fmb420. Yes, it's Camilla Belle as Crystal in The Chumscrubber.

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

fmr162 is actress Rachael Leigh Cook
fmr178 is model Lily Aldridge
fmr179 is model Amber Valletta

fmr190 is actress Rachelle Lefevre - I'm not sure which film/show that is or if it's a more general shot. She looks a little younger than in Under the Dome. But she has redder hair in some of her earlier performances, such as The River King (not that long ago).

fmr204 is from Sin City (we already have Devon Aoki listed)
fmr207 is model Jessica Gomez from a Sports Illustrated shoot

fmr230 looks like Jennifer Lawrence, but I can't confirm that at the moment

fmr238 is actress Nancy Ticotin as Agent Kimba Welch in Ransom
fmr254 is actress Jennifer Connelly
fmr255 is actress Adrianne Palicki

Finally! fmr251 is model/personality Imogen Dyer

I've found the original for fmr284 at http://farm4.static.flickr.com...960_a005e40081_m.jpg , but I haven't been able to figure out who she is.

I think between Evil Empryss and me we've nearly finished fmr. Which group should we attack next?

This appears to be a private Flickr account belonging to a Spanish user named Greek Narcisism. All the photos on her photostream are of the same person, and several are captioned "Me" and tagged as SELF.

Maybe we list her as 'Greek Narcisism' (with the quotes) then? Profession could be blank and source Flickr?

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

Hi folks - just joined.

I was wondering if anyone thinks it might be useful to have a thread listing the identified portraits by name of real person?  I did a cut & paste into a spreadsheet in which I have put various formula to translate it back into the necessary RPOL code... a simple sort and hey presto, I have all portraits of the same person listed together...

This is just the "A"s of the women - the entire list is too big for one post...  But if there is an appetite for it, I could post them all in another thread, split over several posts...  Updating is pretty easy, just re-run the lists through the spreadsheet periodically.

Thoughts?

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

Hi! Glad to see you made it in. I have conflicting opinions about your listing idea.

1. It seems a heck of a lot easier than using Find in the listing pages. But not so much easier that I would jump up and down and shout hurray about having it. Though, I will admit that it would be quite handy.

2. The main thing I enjoyed about your listing was having the pictures in there. My normal process involves keyword searching until I find a portrait that I kind of like, then coming here and doing a Find to see who it is and if there are other portraits of the same person, and doing comparisons between the portraits in the portrait gallery, usually in a game where I won't care much if I accidentally change the portrait. Having the pictures in there would let me see all the different portraits for a single person all at once which is helpful when trying to choose just the right one. I feel like this might make your listing thread a little too image-heavy for the servers to be friends with it, but I don't really know. I assume that server load is part of why the gallery is split into multiple pages (I'm sure aesthetics also come in to play).

3. Since the main thing I like about your listing was having the pictures there, I'm not sure we couldn't achieve what I liked most just by adding them into the current listings.

4. I would also say that I think it could make mis-identifications easier to spot. For instance, if you scroll through there and play a little "One of These Things is Not Like the Others" you'll see that one Amy Acker portrait looks vastly different. I'm not saying it's a mis-identification. But it might be worth a double-check. Or at least a quick Find in the ID thread to see how solid the ID was to begin with.

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

I already wrote the formula in my spreadsheet - all it takes is a copy & paste from the various threads here, an Excel sort, and then another copy & paste back into a new thread...

If the DM wishes to set me up a new thread (or pair of threads - one for male & one for female), I could quickly whiz through and create the listing based on the current information.

Updating in the future would just have to be on a periodic basis...

Also, re the Server Load aspect of it - it won't be server load on the main RPOL servers, since the images are actually hosted elsewhere.  It will be added load on the image servers - as soon as you open the thread, it will be loading all "identified" images...  so it will be a slow thread to load for individual users.

I'm still catching up with the lists. Should get more done today.

The fact that it will be a load on the image servers is something worth considering. Those servers are paid for and donated by a couple of RPOL users. Also, loading those lists with all the graphics, will be hard on people using older PCs. As cool as it looks I'm not inclined to do it since, as mentioned before, you can search the lists using Find on your browser and putting in a name or keyword.

Also, the pictures in the gallery are now tagged with names and keywords. Click on keyword search at the top of the portrait gallery, type in Angelina Jolie (for example) and most of the pictures of her should show up. The few that don't just haven't been tagged by the Portrait Posse yet.

Re: Portrait Identification Chat

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delays, I'm hoping to make significant progress in updating the lists soon. I'm gonna start by just going through all the messages that you guys have sent in and adding those one message at a time so I make sure that I don't miss anything. After that, if I can, I'll start going through the database and updating it myself :) Thank you for your patience!
