Discussion - Classes & Species

Discuss your favorite classes and species here, along with questions related to character builds, talent trees, and whatever else strikes your fancy.

I'll lead off with a species-related comment - in the KotOR CG, they included new species to cover all the Jedi Masters of the Watchcircle from the KotOR comic books, excluding the one I actually wanted stats for - the Togruta.  However, since Shaak-Ti (the most prominent Togruta in SW, I'd say) looks to be an important figure in the new The Force Unleashed video game/novel/comic book/RPG source book, I'm hoping we'll finally get Togruta-stats in the Force Unleashed CG.  I don't really mind the lack of Togruta stats, however - with Miraluka, Arkanian, and Cathar all published in KotOR, I'm set for my 'exotic species' needs, heh.  Oh, and can you tell I generally prefer my aliens at least mostly humanoid?  :p

It has been requested that I join the discussion here.  As such, I would like to say that my favorite classes are Space Bum, Druish Princess, and Mog.  :D

Re: Discussion - Classes & Species

Yeah, but do you have the requisite "Pilot" skill to go with the absolutely necessary feat of "Operate Winnebago"?

Honestly, my favorite species is Zabrak, in both the RCR and SECR.  My favorite class is likely Scout, primarily because they can bring so many skills to the table, but are still capable of holding their own in a firefight.

EDIT: Realized what I had typed, courtesy of Miko.

Re: Discussion - Classes & Species

Hm. Wouldn't it make more sense to start as a Scout? Since you don't get bonus skill points for multi-classing... you're basically throwing away what you consider to be the class's main attribute.

Me, I like Gungan soldiers. Now that's an insane Reflex defense.

Other than that - Human Nobles are downright scary. ^^

Wouldn't Scoundrel or Scout work better for Reflex, though?

PC meade352mxs:
Honestly, my favorite species is Zabrak, in both the RCR and SECR.

Zabrak are awesome, heh.  I had a Zabrak Scout/Soldier/Bounty Hunter in play in a game that had to be closed not too long ago, and though I didn't get too much time to discover all his abilities, I really loved the character, he was as tough as they come, heh.

And, to push this thing back on it's tracks (feel free to move the Spaceballs-discussion to the main OOC! :p), what are your thoughts on melee vs. ranged characters?  I've yet to do a melee character that wasn't a Jedi, but I'd like to try out a regular Soldier melee-warrior sometime soon.  But are any of the other classes at all viable for Melee?  Nobles and Scoundrels feel like they'd be far too light on HPs to stand toe-to-toe with the bad guys (though Nobles do have a new Fencing talent tree in KotOR CG...), but could it be done with a Scout, putting emphasis on mobility and moving around the battlegrounds?

Re: Discussion - Classes & Species

I have a melee based Trandoshan npc in the table top game that I'm currently running, set during the tail end of the New Sith Wars, just before the rise of Darth Bane. He dual wields vibroblades and has done well. A player in the game also has a melee character, a wookie soldier that is just hankering to get ahold of a vibro axe and start chopping people in half.

Edit: If you're going to go melee, before KotOR, you almost had to go soldier, just to get the armor talent tree since you can't count on cover/concealment when you're going toe to toe with someone.

Re: Discussion - Classes

That's pretty much the way.
If you want to go for Melee as Soldier although the Brawler Talent Tree is pretty nice, I think You should begin with Armor Specialist and then move on to either Weapon Spec or Brawler.

Although it was only a Hybrid I played(Mandalorian Soldier with a focus on Rifle/Exotic Weapons) he was almost on par with the Jedi. The Moment our Melee Jedi was LV 5 I think it was, my Character was still a pretty good Melee fighter, but his specialisation was Rifles with Exotic Weapon Support and could only beat the Jedi with the Combination of all of the mentioned, but then it would be almost a certain defeat.

I think I have to buy the KotOR book next I am getting more and more excited about the content.

What do you guys prefere as the Battle Commander Character? My Group thinks only with a healthy Multiclass you can really go for a Battle Commander(We had a Soldier/Noble going for Officer)

I believe rallenc82 is correct - at least technically.  While we probably can't post things like that in public threads, however, we can share it with our gaming groups - as long as it's bits and pieces of published books, and not the entire things.  At least, that's about what I was told when I asked Cruinne about it when it came up at an earlier time.  And, since I already have that particular species typed up, anyway, I figure I'd throw this link out there:

link to a message in another game

It's got Miraluka, Arkanian (including Arkanian Offshoot), Kathar, Feeorin and Bith from published sources, and a couple of others that were published online by WotC.

Here is one person's take:

Celegian
Ability Modifiers: -2Dex, +2Int, +2Wis, -2Cha
Large-size: -1 Size penalty to Reflex Defense, -5 Size penalty on Stealth. Encumbrance x2, +5 Size bonus to Threshold.
Base Speed: Within a cyanogen atmosphere or floating life-support chamber, Celegians fly at a base speed of 4 squares. Celegians have a swim speed of 10 squares in the cyanogen seas of their homeworld.
Telepathy: Celegians can use the Use the Force skill to create a telepathic link untrained and without the Force Sensitivity Feat. In addition, the DC for using Telepathy is reduced by 5.

Sorry, had bad experiences with a player playing a Kobold character. Played it darn near useless and the guy made it almost impossible for the group to meet without him. Then he up and left.

So with a group of Kobolds/Jawas played in a fun but not other player limiting way, I guess it could be fine.

Y'know, one of my D&D games had a kobold character in the party.  He turned out to be one of the most fun and memorable characters in that group.  Total team player and managed to handle all sorts of things other players just tried to avoid.  Even managed to kill three giants and get the party Rogue out of one of their stomachs.

I'd say a jawa PC could be awesome, with the right player.  Then again, the same player with the kobold wanted me to run a Star Wars game and let him play a giant albino dark Jedi jawa.  (I refused, so one of our other players ran the game and let him do it, instead.  I have yet to wipe the shame from my hands.)  Barring total madness, it might work out just fine.

A Protocol Droid would be the most preferred Model, but an Astromech might work.  Still, the droid would have to be able to communicate with the Jawas, so it would have to be capable of speaking Bocce at the very minimum... (And at least one of the Jawas would have to speak Bocce too)

This game is going to be light-ish on combat.  there will be much more scouting/sneaking/breaking into places/selling piece of junk 3Po's to anyone with a few credits :p

And yes, Jawa's get ion guns.  I’ll even allow sporting rifles for a "tracker" type of Jawa.

Re: Discussion - Classes

Yeah, well we'll call him 'the droid' even when he does have a name, so why does it matter?

Re: Discussion - Classes

Conversions for Arms and Equipment are found in the same place they tucked the Jawa stats, in the conversion guide from SWd20 to SWSE.

Re: Discussion - Classes

regarding stuff not in the SE core books you can use the conversion guide posted above and any official web enhancements.

Vorantha: your droid will be salvaged off of a wrecked ship, which will be our initial plot hook, you will need to be some kind of protocol or assistant droid as that is what is most likely to be on that particular ship.  I don't see any reason why a droid couldn't use a stun weapon as it does not 'harm' living beings, your programing may need a slight tweak but that shouldn't be a problem if one of our Jawa's is a gearhead/slicer.  But that's not to say that you should start out with combat capabilities, just that you will probably gain them at some point.

As for language, Jawa trade would work for the droid if it had some reason to learn it, but the droid will be from the core and just have recently come to tatooine, so Bocce is much more likely to be a language that the droid and the Jawas would all know.

For our Jawas: please don't be rollingup Jawa commandos... :p you may end up being Jawa commandos... But to start with you are simple scavengers and traders. Some posibilities include mechanics, slicers, maybe a hunter who uses an old beat up sporting rifle to shoot wimp rats to barbeque... Maybe a droid specialist, etc.  Our "witch doctor" should either be a shaman type quasi spiritual leader, or a young upstart who may have a lowly position, but has a few special tricks up his sleeve.  Think along the lines of Hobbits from the begining of LoTR, you are not warriors when you start out, just simple folk.  The campaign will be a bit low tech in tearms of fights... Don't expect to get into fire fights with storm trooper squads, more like having to sneak around or outsmart a big dumb gamorrean guard to get inside a building, etc.

Re: Discussion - Classes

I'll take the Witch Doctor position, an toss it in with the Nobe class if I can.  I don't have the book at the moment, so figuring out if that will work will have to be done later.

Re: Discussion - Classes

Lol, well that's ok.  I have a big meeting in a few hours, so I won’t be on much until after then anyway.  After I get back from the meeting I will put my official game add up here.

For those of you that already expressed interest; you can start sending me Character Descriptions and Sheets via PM.

Re: Discussion - Classes

Yeah, I haven't really had much access to the book either lately.  I've finally gotten most of it done, though.  Just talents, feats, and equipment left.

EDIT: Done!  Sending for approval... ^^

Re: Discussion - Classes

Just an update on the Jawa game (since this is where we seem to be discussing it) I have 3 Jawas and 1 droid, I will take up to one more Jawa and 1 more Droid, but I am willing to start the game with the four players that I have.  Applications will be accepted through Friday night and the game will start Saturday.
