Time Waster Dungeoneering III

(Game idea by Heath)

Whoever's turn it is acts as DM and posts a room or rooms.  It can be any kind of room, from puzzles to encounters, to something just plain interesting or weird, or even bland.  The idea is roleplaying, possibly even being comedic like Knights of the Dinner Table.

Whoever is playing takes on some kind of persona for that room, from your own made up character to Abraham Lincoln to Buck Rogers -- whatever you want.  You can use that persona multiple times on the different rooms or change each time there is a new room.  However, your character does not have any special powers or equipment unless the DM okays it first.

ONE RULE:  The one rule is that any action you take must be decided on by the DM before you take your next action.  This is simply a matter of logistics for running the room.  You may, of course, communicate with each other, but actions must be resolved one at a time (unless the DM says otherwise). Please put actions in bold type.

The idea is to roleplay/explore the room and then exit.  Maybe you need to solve a riddle to exit or pass some guard, or maybe you just have to say you are leaving.  The first one through gets to post the next room or pass it on. If you don't want to DM the next room, DO NOT be the first one to leave this room!  (But seriously, you can pass your turn if you want.)

We recommend that the DM re-post the scenario for the room frequently so that everyone knows what's going on.

Here is an example:

DM1:  You descend into a pit.  There is an exit on the far end, and the ceiling is above you beyond your sight.  The ground is covered in guano.

Player1:  I take the guano!!
Player2:  You dolt.  Do you even know what guano is?
Player3:  I smell the guano for strange excretions.

DM1:  Your talking has awakened a hoard of bats that descend on you from above.
Player1:  I fling my recently acquired guano at the bats.
Player2:  I duck behind Player1 and use him as a human...err...half-orc shield.
Player3:  I try to make sounds to throw their radar senses off.

DM1:  The bats are deflected by the radar, and Player2 is safely behind Player1, so the bats hit Player1.  He is bitten and contracts rabies.  The bats fly out the entrance you came in.
Player1:  Let's hurry and get out of here.  I'll take on the nickname Cujo.

DM1:  You leave with no further problems.
(Change DM to Player 1 for next room.)

(We have also had a room by Raz in testing that was like a puzzle room and a room by Heath that was like a riddle room.)

You fall down the fun slide of doom and find yourself in a room (as always).  There is no way back up the fun slide of doom and you are all standing knee deep in all manner of bodily fluids and filth.  There is one door, ten feet above the ground.

The golf club is violently shoved into Pyrofx's shoulder as Ikyu jumped up with blatent disregard for the positioning of the item. Pyrofx was caught completely off guard, fell sideways from the pain, and now suffers from a possibly dislocated and very bruised left shoulder that is now incapable of holding anybody's weight.

@ TK: (sorry I had the wrong person ^^;)

You find your flames explode violently around you instead of being put out. When the flame finally clears, you find yourself in a room(?) with many doorways and stairs and pathways going every which way. In front of you(or is it behind you? I'm not really sure) is a pathe that splits into three different directions. Right, Left(?), and... down? How interesting. You see one door in this whole place, but it's way out of reach. You have to make your way there.

@ Grug:

You do nothing but look where I "point". You see the door exactly as I have described it.

Re: Time Waster Dungeoneering III

Figuring out the puzzle, Grug bashes all of the other flying Grugs out of the air, heaps their groaning bodies into a pile, and mails them to Santos.  Meanwhile, he realized that the open doors adjust a person's orientation, so after a quick bit of figuring he enters the combination of doors that will bring him to the same plane as the destination door (we need better names for these things.  How about "Portal" for the open ones, and "Door" for the specific one."

Well, You find yourself on the same plane, but for some reason the door is out of reach. You see a pth that seems to lead "up" to it from a different direction.

(The difference is "Doorways" and "Door" because they are doorways without doors except for the one door.)

(But I did say there were walkways, or pathways. Whatever you wanna call them. They're hand railed walkways that lead up to doorways or split off on to other hand railed walkways. I'm still wondering why no one's noticed the positioning of the doorways... or asked about the positioning of the doorways.)

@ TK: You can not move pass the doorway. There is a railing on either side of it that prevents you from moving forward. If you try to jump over it, you smack your head on an invisible barrier and fall back onto the walkway..

@ Pyro: You see no walls. Just an endless space of doorways and walkways/paths.

@ TK: Since a lot of you have asked this, there are 256 doorways, but only one door.

The only way you can find the walls is because the doorways seem to be mounted on them, other than that the room looks as if it stretches on forever in all directions, though in reality it does not.

that might be why.

anyway...

grug, the fourth dimension isn't time.  Thats just the way between dimensions.  THIS is 4th dimensional space:

to the best of my knowledge on the subject, all of the variations shown are possible and co-exist at the same time in 4-D space.  Think about it for a minute.....  Think.....
Now you know why I don't like this.

so theres no pattern?  that could be an issue.  anyway, are we talking about like bridges between 2 doorways, or what?  if theres no pattern, then it seems as though theres no way to do it...

UNLESS!!

can I see what is on the other side of any of the doorways?  if I can, I look for an exit which appears to be normal, and go through that door.

Re: Time Waster Dungeoneering III

Ok. You've got it all wrong. This is not a Hypercube. There are pockets of differently oriented space-times all over the place. They even overlap each other in places, that's why perception is all screwy in here. The "doorways" are on solid walls but there is an illusion that makes the walls seem as if they aren't there. If you step through a dorrway, you come out another one someplace else, and into a different space-time, which is why it's always screwy. The paths have paths connecting each other and the doorways, but there is only one way to get to the Door, and that is to find the path that doesn't go through a doorway. It's a four dimensional maze. Not a four dimensional Hypercube. Which is wrong anyway, Hypercubes can only exist in the 5th dimension.

There you go.

You could at least give points for creativity.  That's the difference between this thread and the Puzzle Rooms thread.  Rooms here are meant to have lots of ways to solve them.  Plus, mazes are ridiculously difficult to describe in a text format, let alone a 4 dimensional, which is like difficulty^3.

Besides that, I'm wondering why whoever made this place would require a minion to go through a 4 dimensional maze to take out the trash.  Just weird to think about.

PS, Convusion was purposeful.

TK: Grug disappears over the edge of the path that seems to end in mid-air, but you don't see him fall, nor do you hear him scream as if he fell. It's as if he just continued walking over to the underside of the path. (I said things were really screwy here)

You enter the room, and find yourself on the edge of a cliff. The door behind you has disappeared.

Turning around, you see a stone archway, a through it, a castle courtyard with a multude of roses is various colors. In the center is a dry fountain. On the edges of the fountain, facing you, are three statues, each about 3 feet tall- a lion, a wolf, and a fox. The fox iin the center of the two, with the lion on the left and the wolf on the right.

Actually, evolution says the Egg came first.  Think about it.  The chicken's ancestor would have different DNA, each generation moving a little closer to its tasty destiny.  Eventually, the DNA will be infinitely close to the DNA of the chicken until one generation later, an egg is made with a real chicken in it.  thus, the Egg came first, brithed from a non-chicken, but a real chicken inside.

Evolution vs. Creation.  The war wages on.

The washing machine spits you out from a sarcophagus. When you're out, you're in a sealed egyptian tomb. Alternating statues of Ra and Anubis surround the centerpiece of the room, a green sarcophagus. A skeleton is propped up against it, with a book in one hand and a note in the other.

There are organ jars, and a senet game is being played by two mummies. Spools is winning.

Re: Time Waster Dungeoneering III

It's the skeleton of an explorer. You can tell because of the hat and monocle that he's from the 19th century or so. The book in his hand is a hieroglyphics translation guide, and the note is curled up, so you can't read it.

The note reads "The shorter mummy cheats."

On the far left wall, there seems to be a large patch of grass with a series of hieroglyphs over it.

The statues do nothing, and the mummies look at you like you're on fire. The short mummy moves one of his pieces on the game board.

You find yourself in a familiar room, ikyu.  It seems like you are back at that certain house.  with that sign in the front yard.

as for you, cuddles, the alien treatments didn't work on whatever strain of anthrax this is, so you die, and appear back in your starting location.

oh, and soulvirus trips on some gravel and skins his face, eventually bleeding out on the front steps.  he dies and appears back where he started.

After rudely forcing his way to the front of the line, ikyu pokes the two glowing eyes.  which this time happened to be attached to that cougar.  except its not dead this time.   It bites his face off and then sulks back into the porsche, where it commits suicide.  Ikyu ends up back at the sign, the cougar does not.

After seeing a dear friend mutilated by a feral cat, SoulVirus goes inside the house.  It is a dark room, and off to the right a pair of glowing eyes stare at him unblinkingly.

Ok I guess I'll make a room.  Up to 5 people can enter.

You walk through a natural stone tunnel into a man-made stone room.  The room is approximately a 50 by 50 ft. square room with the ceiling around 20 ft. high.  It is well lit with dozens of candles lining the tops of the walls.  All of the candles on the left wall have blue flames unlike the others which have orange flames.  Along the edges of the room except for the entrance is murky water stretching about 10 ft. into the room.  You cannot tell how deep it is, however, you see dark shadows in the water of varying sizes.  In the center of the room is a short pedestal which appears to be made out of the same stone as the walls.  On it is a thick leather bound book with a title in some incomprehensible language.  The air around the book seems to be filled with a thin blue mist.

I first throw Lingering Radiation on jioan to slow him (as it slows both movement and power recharge rate), then I toss a Choking Cloud of radioactive SMOG at him so that his choking will distract him from using any more telekinesis on me.  The Lingering Radiation should help keep him in the Choking Cloud for a longer period of time.

You appear in a stone room with no windows or doors.  The room seems to be a perfect cube with dimensions of 30 feet.  The only notable features in the room are four torches, and only one of them is lit.  There is a single torch in the center of each wall.  The fire itself is an unnatural color that only an artist could distinguish as blue or green.  The fire almost whispers to you that is wishes to spread to the other torches in the room but it cannot without your assistance.

The walls and/or floor and ceiling won't move?
The torches are literal torches (meaning wooden handle and flammable head)?
The fire though it is unusual in color is a normal fire?

Yes, although they appear to be stuck to the wall through some sort of unnatural forces.

The fire though it is unusual in color is a normal fire?
Very Important: The fire does not seem to be burning the torch.
