Memo: I love you all, even the ones I haven't met yet (probably), but I'm afraid I don't have the time that I used to have anymore. Let's see... the last time I was posting here, I think I was a manager at Del Taco. I then became office manager at a metalworking company. We bought a powdercoating company when the owner decided to retire, and then the economy started to go downhill.
Nevermind that powdercoating lasts for like 20 years when paint in the same conditions might only last for 2 years, powdercoating is 3-4 times more expensive than painting and when people don't have the money they'll just repaint every year or two or let things appear weathered. Weathered is the new black. :p
All the powdercoaters in the area were going out of business and we hung on until we were the last one in the county (the only one in the IE that was willing to do a commercial job at the time), then we sold out to a competitor who'd been in business since 1848 and consequently had owned their giant building for years so they didn't have to pay rent, had very low property taxes, etc. C'est la vie.
I had an abundance of spare time, so I started volunteering more, working with the Boy Scouts and Rotary. I ended up working last summer as Outdoor Skills Director at a Boy Scout camp and I currently work as a Host and Activity Director at a "traditional" camp on weekends and part time at a drycleaners during the week while I also attend school to get my EMT license so that I can more into a camp medic position or something. I think I'll be working as a low-ropes/COPE director this summer, then getting my Wilderness First Aid Instructor cert. I'm also a Leave No Trace Master Educator so I might be attending the big conference for that in Alabama this fall. I'm also attending BYU-Idaho online because I never did finish my Bachelor's degree (I kept leaving school to work).
I'm going to be an Enforcer at PAX East this April, playing zone defense in the Expo Hall. As a green badge, I'll be the last line of defense in case of emergencies, which I'm excited about. I'm the Scoutmaster for my old Scout troop, I lead the music in my church, and I also do some other volunteer activities.
What can I say -- like Prince Humperdinck, I'm swamped (although I don't have my country's 500th anniversary to plan nor my wife to murder or Guilder to frame for it. In other news, I bought a 1984 Honda Magna 500cc motorcycle several months ago, a
