Monty Python Game

This thread is for all things related to Monty Python.  You don't have to quote.  You can simply discuss things, quote, be silly, and buy dead parrots.  Whatever catches your fancy, so long as it is somehow at least tangentially related to Monty Python.

You may post in this thread as much as you want, as long as you BRING ME A SHRUBBERY!!

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine thousand miles an hour.
It's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
'Round the sun that is the source of all our power.
Now the sun, and you and me, and all the stars that we can see,
Are moving at a million miles a day,
In the outer spiral arm, at fourteen thousand miles an hour,
Of a galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Well, er, yes Mr Anchovy, but you see your report here says that you are an extremely dull person. You see, our experts describe you as an appallingly dull fellow, unimaginative, timid, lacking in initiative, spineless, easily dominated, no sense of humour, tedious company and irrepressibly drab and awful. And whereas in most professions these would be considerable drawbacks, in chartered accountancy they are a positive boon.

Re: Monty Python Game

In the debate, a spokesman accused the goverment of being silly and doing not at all good things. The member accepted this in the spirit of healthy criticism, but denied that he had ever been naughty with a choir boy. Angry shouts of 'What about the Watermelon then?' were ordered then by the speaker to be stricken from the record and put into a brown paper bag in the lavvy. Any further interruptions would be cut up and distributed amongst the poor. For the Government, a front-bench spokesman said the Agricultural Tariff would have to be raised, and he fancied a bit. Futhermore, he argued, this would give a large boost to farmers, him, his friends, and Miss Moist of Knightsbridge. From the back benches there were opposition shouts of 'Postcards for sale' and a healthy cry of 'Who likes a sailor then?' from the minister without portfolio. Replying, the Shadow Minister said he could no longer deny the rumors, but he and the Dachshund were very happy. And in any case he argued Rhubarb was cheap, and what was the harm in a sauna bath?

I'm not sure if I should put this idea here on in suggestions, however I will put it here since this thread has drifted to the third page.  I believe we should open up this gain to all british humor (Red Dwarf, The HitchHiker's Guide to the Universe, etc.) Also, put in a subtle reference from where it came from, generally.

Oh course that's the implication they were trying convey.  They were showing that the king can "exploit the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society."
Dennis said it perfectly.

But all's I know is: Strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

My last quote was from Meaning of Life, as is this one...

Hello, and welcome to 'The Middle of the Film', the moment where we take a break to invite you, the audience, to join us, the film-makers, in 'Find the Fish'. We're going to show you a scene from another film and ask you to guess where the fish is, but, if you think you know, don't keep it to yourselves. Yell out so that all the cinema can hear you. So, here we are with... 'Find the Fish'.

Strange women, laying in ponds, distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government.  You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some wattery tart threw a sword at you!  Supreme executeive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.  Listen, if I went 'round claiming I was an emperor, just because some moistened bink had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

[singing]
We're knights of the round table
We dance when e'er we're able
We do routines and parlour scenes
With footwork impecc-Able.

We dine well here in Camelot
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot

[dancing]

We're knights of the Round Table
Our shows are for-mid-able
Though many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsing-able
We not so fat in Camelot
We sing from the diaphragm a lot

[tap-dancing]

Oh we're tough and able
Quite indefatigable
Between our quests we sequin vests
And impersonate Clark Gable
It's a bit too loud in Camelot
I have to push the pram a loooot.

This happened in our generic fantasy RP my group was doing, I have cut out a lot of Fluff and description but the joke and punchline remain.

GM: You arrive at the massive fortress which is humbled by the mountains it is perched upon. Many kings have lived here and many have died here, battles have been won and lost and now you characters will begin their quest.

PC 1: Wow, look at this, the specs on this fortress are amazing.

PC 2: Yeah I mean if we get caught in a siege I want to be here.

ME: Its only a model.

And everything great about it vanished as the room filled with laughter.

“Listen, lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one... stayed up! And that's what you're gonna get, lad: the strongest castle in these islands.”

Evening, Michelangelo. I want to talk to you about this painting of yours, The Last Supper. I'm not happy about it.

I don't remember MOnty Python ever saying that!  :)  You can open another or wait and see; this isn't the most active thread.

Re: Monty Python Game

(The problem is, I end up posting in it more than most, and only because I'm forced to in order to get NOLIFE.  There are several threads like that.  Maybe I need to "down vote" each of those threads each time I participate.)

Re: Monty Python Game

Is it dead yet?

(The problem is, it's too narrow of a topic, unless you're REALLY into MP.  After all these years, it's still on it's first incarnation, which means people are probably avoiding it.  I'll close it and see if anyone complains.)

Re: Monty Python Game

If anyone wants this thread back, especially new players, let us know. (I liked it.) In the meantime, enjoy the full Bridge of Death quotes:

Bridgekeeper: STOP! Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see.
Sir Lancelot: Ask me the questions, Bridgekeeper. I am not afraid.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your name?
Sir Lancelot: My name is Sir Lancelot of Camelot.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your quest?
Sir Lancelot: To seek the Holy Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What... is your favourite colour?
 Sir Lancelot: Blue.
Bridgekeeper: [Suddenly friendly] Right. Off you go.
Sir Lancelot: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much. [crosses the Bridge]
Sir Robin: That's easy! [He approaches the Bridge. The others follow him.]
Bridgekeeper: STOP! Whoever approacheth the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see.
Sir Robin: Ask me the questions, Bridgekeeper. I'm not afraid.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your name?
Sir Robin: Sir Robin of Camelot.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your quest?
Sir Robin: To seek the Holy Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What... is the capital of Assyria?
Sir Robin: I don't know that! AAAAAAAAHHH! [is cast into the gorge by an invisible force]
[Arthur and the other Knights realise that this will not be as easy as they thought. Galahad then approaches the Bridge.]
Bridgekeeper: STOP! What... is your name?
Sir Galahad: Sir Galahad of Camelot.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your quest?
Sir Galahad: I seek the Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What... is your favourite colour?
Sir Galahad: Blue. No, yellOOOOOOOW!! [is cast into the gorge]
Bridgekeeper: Hee hee heh. STOP! What... is your name?
King Arthur: It is Arthur, King of the Britons.
 Bridgekeeper: What... is your quest?
King Arthur: To seek the Holy Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What... is the average air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? I don't know that! EEEEEEAAAARRGH!!! [is cast into the gorge]
Sir Bedevere: [to Arthur] How do you know so much about swallows?
King Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

Yeah, if we revive it, I suspect we'd want to start a fresh thread.
