[Chapter 2.2] The Jetsom Away Team

Harry McStubbins:
So we're all protected then since it is only 2 RADS/hr. as the suits are good up to 20 RADS/hr.?

Yes.

That's okay Olyx, many times I get a bit lost too. Khue, who is an awesome player I've gamed with for years, is quite awesome at Traveller! Levi/Tanja is another. I don't know Lex too well, but the GM has picked it up super quick and he's great now too!

When you state "damaged corridor" are you referring to what we crossed in section A? or is this something on this side of the platform (section D)?

OOPS ... After making my post I see Tanja was also helping with the flex fuel lines.  I'll need to edit my entry to take that into account.
I cant do that now, but will soon.

Hey GM, what does Olyx know about Tanja's question:

"We were tasked with salvaging the Jetsom station if possible, rescuing the crew here. But if it was possible they tasked us with collecting as much of the exotic material cargo as possible. Where is it stored and how much is there?? Is it something we ourselves could carry or would we need the droids or SAPEs for cargo handling??"

The distilling machinery is at Khuevaengh and Adriannah's present location.  The room that is around the central column. Containers are filled there and usually sent to section D docking bay for shipping to the Snobol station.

Droids help, but most of the handling has been with the SAPEs.

Empty containers were loaded onto the shuttle the away team arrived in. Empty ones are usually found in the store (F1).

Levi stated:
"I thought it was just Zhodani nobility that had the power which suggests it's somehow genetic. Less than one percent of all Zhodani??"

Hmmmm... I have not read every book in these rules.  Is that true?  Only nobility have psionic power?  I shall have to read up on Zhos.

No, although people in the Imperium may think so, along with all kinds of other rumors.

Psionic potential is more or less similar to the other major human species. The big difference is that members of the noble and intendant classes will all receive psionic training as a matter of course, regardless of how strong their potential is. (This can result in a noble with PSI-2 and no functional talents, but even that has its uses.)

Proles, who are the bulk of the population (~80%), will only receive training if their psionic potential is very high. This also gets the prole elevated to the intendant class.

Of course, just having Psi power doesn't guarantee that you'll end up with any particular talent, so only some of that ~20% will actually have the relevant one to control machines. (And that would be under the standard psionic talent structure.)

[Chapter 2.2] The Jetsom Away Team

In reply to GM (msg # 857):

As per Khuevaengh's comment. Zhodani nobility are all psychics in one form or another, and commoners are promoted to nobility depending on ability.

Commoners in Zhodani society are generally compliant only because their lords and masters can read minds and know who the trouble makers are!!

Levi was making a comment based on his (limited) understanding of both psionics and the Zhodani, and was trying to rationalise the computer problems with flawed knowledge. After all, the problem occurred on Snobol long before the Katerina arrived, but he's frustrated at the lack of information and understanding and has turned his attention to something he does understand - and the two separate problems have merged into one for him as he is seeking a phantom signal that may or may not exist using a sensor array he is now questioning his understanding of, and his paranoia is screaming "Zhodani mind control computers may now have control over the ship."

A good lie down and a strong drink will definitely help...

The fuel line repair crew is in limbo (I think).
What's the plan on fixing the fuel line?  I know we will be fixing it, but what's the priorities?  Do we start the repaired now, or wait until the rest of the group rejoins us?  Who makes that call?

We're not really in limbo - we made rolls to see whether we could repair the fuel line, and the duration was in hours, and the same will be for the refuelling process. Time to investigate the reactor and other crew will be measured in minutes so it makes sense that the characters doing that take precedence over us.

Harry McStubbins:

That is the correct call. We don't wait, we repair the fuel line and begin refuelling the shuttle as soon as possible. I don't think the other team will be too long and the sooner we're ready to leave this extraction platform the better.

I know that we don't really have a team leader, but Tanja has sort of unofficially adopted the role of spokesperson for the Katerina crew, and that is something that she would want to happen. It makes sense to start the process. We can always stop if needed and continue later, but with a time limit due to radiation, deteriorating hull integrity of the platform and limited life support in our suits, the sooner we're ready to leave the better.

If the computer system realises what we're doing and reacts by retasking a droid or two to stop us, then we'll see that coming (We have Olyx to thank for keeping an eye on the droid we've spotted so far) and can always call for reinforcements...

Looking at the map of the reactor room - if that's a true and accurate representation (and not just a doodle) then I'm afraid that Akon is little more than a radioactive skeleton and whoever enters that room will have a wonderful green glow for the rest of their lives!!

*grin*

Let's try and do this quickly as I hate the insidious effects and dangers of radiation.

[Chapter 2.2] The Jetsom Away Team

Moved this here rather than asking it in an OOC question in the thread...

Where is the fuel storage tank?? I'm assuming that with two docking bays they'd have a single tank, otherwise we could have just connected the shuttle to the fuel tank on the other bay which would save us the task of creating this new pipeline.

If it is centralised, surely we'd have activated the safety valve to prevent fuel pumping or spilling as part of our disassembling the pipeline?? Otherwise the moment we opened the pipe we'd have spilled fuel all over the docking bay here.

That then just leaves the fuel that is still in the pipes and system of the docking bay - not as dangerous as having it all directly connected to the storage tanks.

Also the task was due to take minutes to pull apart, again I'm assuming that dismantling is easier than rebuilding, so have estimated time at an hour for rebuilding and refuelling. If I'm lying then I'm going to make the technical team appear like miracle workers if we do it in less time!!
