Firefly game

I was looking for any interest in someone running a game of Firefly, using the system from Margaret Weis (the newer Firefly system, not the old Serenity game). I'm pretty new to the game, but not the fluff (I'm a big Firefly fan). That being said I am fully accepting of whatever type of game would be run, long as I can join :)

If anyone is interested in running or playing in a Firefly game, let me know below :)

Re: Firefly game

Ok, I have to apologize.  I actually have the older Serenity version...I didn't realize they had released a new Firefly game in April based on Cortex Plus.  Unfortunately I don't know or own this system.

I would be willing to run something in the Serenity / Firefly universe but it would have to be using the old rules.  I could also run a campaign using the Alternity rules if there's any interest in that.

Let me know and sorry again...

In reply to cithindril (msg # 4):

I'd be interested in either game... whichever gets off the ground, really.

Re: Firefly game

The system is fairly irrelevant; it is the GM and players that make the game.

Re: Firefly game

It would have to be the new Firefly system for me, I don't have the Serenity system and I'd prefer to use it over freeform or another system I don't happen to own. I may be convinced to do a game with FATE, because I was in a great Bulldogs game back in the day that used pregens, but that I think is my limit.

I'm really looking more to try out the new Firefly system though.

Re: Firefly game

Cero , no worries. I hope you'll find a good GM who can run a game for you using  the new rules. To the others who expressed an interest, keep an eye on the players wanted forum this weekend.  I'll put a game announcement up and see how many takers  I get.

No chance that announcement went up and I missed it, right? I just remembered to look.

Re: Firefly game

The new Firefly rules are superb, I really prefer them to the classic version.

Would you want to create original characters, or play the crew of Serenity?

Re: Firefly game

Brodencrantz, sorry for the delay in getting the serenity game announcement up (it was a really busy weekend). Look for it by tomorrow evening.

Thanks!

Re: Firefly game

In reply to Alyse (msg # 10):

I wouldn't mind playing crew members or having OCs, I think both have their pros really :)

I enjoy what Margaret Weis is doing with the Cortex system, having played MHR and loving it still, so really just getting a game going would be great, though I must admit, whilst I'd love an OC to control, I do love the Firefly and her crew, so I guess they'd have to appear, either as PCs or having a cameo and interacting with the game's PCs, which I think would be amazing ^^

(Finally I get to profess my love to Kayleigh ;D)

Re: Firefly game

Firefly feels like Marvel Heroic with some nods to Smallville, from my reading thus far.

Can create Smallville-style Relationships with the Signature Assets rules, for example.

Re: Firefly game

I have not seen the newer version of the SRPG system.  The cortex system (original) that I know of runs great for both character development, player encouragement (plot points) and ease of use.

Re: Firefly game

Well, just happens Serenity is out of print (plus I don't own it anyway), but Firefly is available right now and also uses the updated Cortex system... Also, on a lesser reason I prefer the Firefly series (and comics) to the Serenity movie. And... this version of the game has a shedload of extra content already out...

I just wish there was a bit more support for it. I know someone who owns the game and may play, but they haven't poked their nose in here so I'm not sure. I just really like the setting, the system seems super-fun and I'm up for a game...

Re: Firefly game

I'm still all over playing a Firefly game. I'm open on crew, but I'd prefer original characters to those seen on screen.

Re: Firefly game

*nods* Like I said before, I got no problem with that, though I'd have a wish to see the crew cameo as NPCs at some small point at least.

Re: Firefly game

Yeah, it's a defense mechanism to prevent having to deal with either side of the "But [my favorite character] would never do that!"

Re: Firefly game

I just wanted to make a comment here about the idea.

1) I think it is a great idea.  I have tried in the past to get a game going with my group and just never found enough people with interest.

2) I think running with "official" characters is a bad idea.

As the previous post said, you get into the whole "x would never do that!" debate.  I ran a Star Wars game for many years with groups of friends and treated it as if the major characters just disappeared once the movies were over.  Not only does it free up the players to make their own characters/ideas, but it frees the GM up from hearing complaints/comments about how the canon characters are portrayed.  Because no matter how close you stick to their personalities in the official media, SOMEONE will complain about what you choose to do with them.  It happens every time.  Oh and:

3) GM has final say on anything. So that portryal is ALWAYS right, if you want to play that card.

Re: Firefly game

I see that Alyse has started a Firefly game and I wish her the best with it.

Since I had already begun working on a Serenity RPG version, I'll add that here as an option for those who would prefer to play using those rules.  If interested, please visit link to another game (also rated Mature).
