Star Trek: Gamma Quadrant

In the Gamma Quadrant, the United Federation of Planets finds it exceptionally difficult to locate areas of space which are unoccupied or would welcome their presence on a permanent basis. Space Station K-10 was constructed after the Dominion War ended and with several conditions. Some of the sector’s civilizations agreed to its construction to boost commerce in the area, others were swayed by Starfleet's ability to provide protection and assistance in times of crisis.

A federation hub located close to the Idran sector which contains the Gamma Quadrant terminus of the Bajoran wormhole, Space Station K-10 is responsible for the supply and protection of several Federation and allied colonies and a number of scientific and industrial installations.

To assist in the station's exploratory, scientific and defensive endeavors, the Starfleet Nova-class USS Delaware and Adamant-class USS Dreadnought have been assigned as permanent support ships.

There are three separate duty stations (Space Station K-10, USS Delaware, Rhhaein) and several smaller plots. Each duty station has it's own game master and independent plots. however, many times the stories connect and cross from one station to another.

This is a player-driven game. The players have to put in the work to make a mission run smoothly. The GMs provide a guideline and run the opposition.

We use Stardock as a base for our ship designs and a combination of freeform and simplified CODA rules for in-character actions.

Background info: This game plays in the year 2381, post Dominion War, post Nemesis, post Romulan-Reman conflict. The Federation is in a stable alliance (referred to as the Alliance) with the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Imperial State.

Space Station K-10

Recent history

January 1, 2381, was marked by the surprise disappearance of the Gamma mouth of the wormhole, and chaos on the station as panicking merchant ships tried to flee back to it in an effort to return. The Delaware was sent to investigate.

On January 15, 2381, the USS Dreadnought returned from explorations, but inadvertently released a psychotic biomimetic entity taken as part of a rock sample from Orid I. The entity possessed large numbers of crew and civilians, with Ensign Dala as its primary host, leading to lock-down of a large section of Support Complex A. Lt. Jax Suder of Engineering led a psychic defense, while Doctor Ferris and Lt. Marcus Flecher developed a radiation treatment against it. Together, they freed the possessed people and returned the entity to an inert state. The Dreadnought transported it back to Orid I.

The wormhole was verified to be entirely absent. Its sudden removal, however, had caused a unnoticed shockwave in space-time. It passed with minimal disruption in empty space and distant systems, but, on January 21, it rose into a tsunami in the Idran system, bring subspatial anomalies, a radiation storm, and space-time distortions that all threatened to destroy K-10. Thanks to engine enhancements from Lt. Suder, shielding and reinforcement designs from Ens. Divya, K-10 moved and rode the wave, surviving intact. It found itself deposited on the other side of the Idran system, and some three weeks forward in time, on February 11.

K-10 had suffered heavy damage, many deaths, and lost resources, and local systems and merchants had thought it destroyed. The Idran system was also left riddled with anomalies and variable physical laws. A captive Vendorian had escaped, and remained at large in the station With the wormhole missing and traders reluctant to return, K-10 was left alone and running low on resources. In its absence, and that of the wormhole, the Klingon colony on Pendranis declared itself an independent dominion of the Empire, and recalled the majority of Klingon forces, suggesting that Alliance operations relocate to their world for protection, though Nox refused their demands.

Soon after, however, an Orion freighter, the Opportunity arrived, having made an inexplicable passage of the wormhole, bearing Orion refugees led by an alternate universe double of Ens. Dala. They told horror stories of a Borg invasion of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, and bore the scars and implants to support their claims. The Orions offered to work for and help rebuild K-10. Later that day, the lost ships Ancestor, IRS Rhhaein, and the long-lost USS Arizona returned, having been trapped in Fluidic Space. Celebrations were marred by a riot over highly addictive Orion-spiced sand peas at Kate's Lounge.

Two weeks passed in which K-10 station slowly rebuilt and its mixed population and crews slowly learned to work together to survive.

Type K deep space stations refer to a general service facility. The needs for commercial, supply, support and diplomatic hubs do not always justify a starbase facility. Furthermore starbases have their own significant logistic demands. Deep Space Stations serve to provide quality services in a reasonable package.
Details will vary from station to station. A particular station may also transform over time as the activity in and around it changes.

USS Delaware

The USS Delaware was commissioned before the outbreak of hostilities with the Dominion. Her original mission was to explore, chart, and investigate lesser traveled sections of Federation Space.

When the war with the Dominion broke out, forces were consolidated and fleets were destroyed and rebuilt in record times. The Delaware gained distinction for three things. First, when she was commissioned she had top of the line sensor suites and that was critical in helping her identify potential threats, feints, and opportunities. Second, she had exceptional medical facilities which were used to save many good men and women that had life threatening injuries. Third, her captain showed to be a man of resolve and bravery. Taking the Delaware into war torn regions of space, fighting the good fight, and sticking around to get survivors gained him the admiration of his crew and the respect of his peers.

Heavily damaged during the war, the Delaware has had superficial repairs and is scheduled for extensive modifications at her next duty station.

Now, the Federation Science vessel has left Deep Space 9 behind and entered the Gamma Quadrant. Her current mission is to support the diplomatic mission of station K-10, to develop and test new technology, and to advance Federation knowledge through exploration.

The USS Delaware is a custom Nova-class vessel. It entered the Gamma quadrant with minor modifications, though it is scheduled for refit testing of classified technology.

Rhhaein

Designed as a cross between a scout and a cruiser, the Thereus-class Bird of Prey combines the best features of both: powerful engines so that it can fly at high impulse and warpspeeds; advanced power generation systems; sophisticated sensors; and one of the best types of cloaking devices available to the Romulan Imperial State. Like most Birds of Prey, its weapons are relatively weak, but its crews master “decloak and fire” maneuvers to make up for the lack.

The Thereus has a roughly teardrop-shaped main hull, similar to that of the D’virin-class Incursion Frigate. The command hull, with a downward-pointing “beak” shape like that of the D’deridex, attaches almost seamlessly to the main hull’s forward side. The nacelles are each held directly to port and starboard by two arch-like nacelle pylons. As a result, when the ship is viewed from the front—the only angle many of its victims ever see—it strongly resembles a raptor striking to kill.
