Question about what triggers Last Post.

So, on responsive (at least), posting a Private Message triggers Last Login - as it should - for all characters. But, only -sometimes- does this trip the Last Post.

Does anyone know what the criteria are for a PM triggering Last Post to update?

It's not really important, but I've been trying to figure it out because it puzzles me, and I'm stumped. I had thought that it was only triggering for GM-controlled characters because it's consistent in -ALWAYS- triggering for the GM but seemingly never (or so rarely that I can't remember the last time it did) for the player in an Access thread conversation, and I've gotten consistent results using a GM-controlled PC in a thread with a player-controlled PC, where it always triggers for the GMPC but never for the player PC...

...but further testing reveals that it at least -sometimes- will trigger when player PCs are talking to each other, without a GM or GMPC present. So I thought that maybe it was a case of it only triggering for player PCs if there was -NO- GM-controlled character present, but testing reveals that's also not the case, as again, it at least -sometimes- triggers for player PCs talking with GMPCs. (I can look at two games right now and see a case of one conversation with a GMPC that -did- trip Last Post for the PC, and one that didn't.)

Is it literally just random for PCs?

/so confused

Question about what triggers Last Post.

not sure if i folow?...But

GMs  PMs  and  all threads light up when a new post apears.

for players..Only PMs  to you light up, but all game threads.

if you are a GM that has  'blocked off threads" ..i don't know if any onesees them, because i would never use that.

Question about what triggers Last Post.

donsr  I think SunRuanEr is talking about the Last Post column on the Cast Page, which updates when that Character last posted in a thread.

I just checked a game where I'm the GM, but have a PM that is newer than my last Game Thread post and it is listing my Last Post date as the PM's date, rather than the last thread post which was a day earlier, so it is tracking last post for GMs based off of PMs, I can confirm that.  I'll have to check and pay some attention to it and see if it's doing for Players consistently as well.

ok..i did misunderstand then..thanks evil!

for the Cast... you log into the game  The GM sees the  time..plays  just see the date...if that player makes a post..the GM sees the time of the post...Players  just see the date.

PMs  don't show..Just your log in..as far as i know.,

PM do show, I just tested it and it shows (to me, as I am a Player there) that I posted Today when I have no Public Thread Posts in that game since the 5th (in fact the PM I just made in the game is the only post I've made since the 5th in that game which is why I chose that game for the test).

Now to test and get another Player to post a PM to the GM and see if I can see when their last post occurred.

yeah?  I don't know  for certain I see some of my GMs  or  Players in  those games  say  'PM" so its  hard to tell , because that would also count as a post.

Question about what triggers Last Post.

Interesting and I am now wondering if the wanted player ads is synced right when they show last post listed there.  It should all sync…. Also does the last post take in the PMs too?  Shouldn’t they so one knows a game is truly active???

Question about what triggers Last Post.

I'm not sure about what shows up in the Wanted-Player Ads bit, Lady, but I just checked on a GM search and can verify that PMs do /not/ seem to be tripping the last post in a game...even when they -have- tripped the Last Post for a character /within/ a game.

again?  I could be wrong, but PMs  shouldn't  trip 'last post' as they do not count as posts?..If PMs  counted as  post, my space  game would have 1 million plus posts!

Question about what triggers Last Post.

PMs have tripped Last Post since jase coded in the fix that made posting in PMs trip Last Login, because prior to that fix there was wonkiness happening with regards to the scrambled last logins of GMPCs.

That might be something that only happens on responsive, however. I'm not sure if it got put in on the old site. Regardless, the tripping is definitely not consistent. So far today, I have replicated the following:

PM posts from a GM in any location (Access thread or Other PM): Last Post
PM posts from a player to a GM in their Access Thread: NOT Last Post
PM posts from a player to a GM(s) in a non-Access Thread PM: NOT Last Post
PM posts from a PC to another PC (different players): Last Post
PM posts between a player's PCs and NPCs (same player): Last Post for all involved
PM posts between GMPCs and other GMPCs (different GMs): Last Post for all involved
PM posts between a player's PCs (same player): Last Post for all involved
PM posts from a player PC to a GMPC: NOT Last Post *AND* Last Post (multiple different threads tested, both results seen.)
PM posts from a GMPC to a player PC: Last Post

It would seem consistent, except that it's not triggering Last Post for PCs within their Access Thread, and it seems entirely random when it's a PM between a player PC and a GM PC.

(Edit: I had thought that perhaps it was just -appearing- this way due to having GM access in one of the games I've tested in, but the results are the same on regular player end, too.)

Ah, ye olde "Access Thread just works different".  Yeah, that thread had has weird rules that I don't understand, I think it's because it's connected to your Global ID rather than your In Game Player ID.
