Character Creation Thread - Kid_Midnite: Steel Ninja

The Watcher:
OK, having added some character creation notes (and learning y'all are so bright you didn't really need them in the first place... ;-) ), y'all can go ahead and start a character creation thread for your character(s).

You might copy and past what you have already written into the thread.  Don't worry about formal character creation just yet.  You can just write in plain text and you don't need more than a paragraph at present.

That said, if you do know the Mask rules, you can formally stat them.  I should have formal character sheets up in a day or two.

Character Creation Thread - Kid_Midnite :)

Anything that you want The Watcher to know about your character, please copy it over to your character creation thread, rather than relying upon him to track down info in any other public or private thread.  He has taken on a populous game, so the easier we can make it for him, the sooner we can get up and running.  Many thanks. :)

Character Creation Thread - Kid_Midnite: Steel Ninja

REAL NAME - Cam Turner
Code name - Steel Ninja
Look - White, tight and trim body, robotic exo-suit

Playbook - Brain
Powers - Robot sidekick, Power Armor

Moment of Truth
Sooner or later, all the super powers, elite training, and world-class training are helpless in the face of evil or disaster. That’s when somebody like you, gifted as you are with a peerless intellect, can rise to the occasion. Your plan, your invention, or your lightning-fast thought processes save the day, in a way no one else could have foreseen. Of course, after you’ve shown how different you are from them, that distance between you and the tothers is now that much greater. And the world is only going to pull you farther apart...
Team Moves
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, ask them if they felt they could have done it without you. If they say yes, give Influence to them and mark a condition. If they say no, they give Influence to you.
When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, hold 2. Spend the hold 1-for-1 to clear a condition or add 1 Team to the pool when you are with them.
POTENTIAL >❑ >❑ >❑ >❑ >❑ Every time you roll a miss on a move, mark potential.
Advancement
When you fill your potential track, you advance. Choose from the list below.
When you’ve taken five advances from the top list, you can take advances from the list below.
Other Moves

Abilities
You don’t have any powers of your own, besides your incredible intellect. All of your amazing abilities come from inventions that you have created. You’re best known for one particular invention that you use regularly

❑ Take another move from your playbook
❑ Take another move from your playbook
❑ Take another move from your playbook
❑ Take a Sanctuary from the Doomed playbook
❑ Take Drives from the Beacon playbook
❑ Someone permanently loses Influence over you; add +1 to a Label
❑ Rearrange your Labels as you choose, and add +1 to a Label
❑ Unlock your Moment of Truth
❑ Unlock your Moment of Truth after it’s been used once
❑ Confront your Shame on your terms; if you survive, change playbooks
 ❑ Take an adult move
 ❑ Take an adult move
❑ Lock a Label, and add +1 to a Label of your choice
❑ Become a paragon of the city for however long you have left
 ❑ power armor
 ❑ robotic sidekick

    Labels
(at character creation, add +1 wherever you choose)
BRAIN Moves
(Choose three)
 DANGER FREAK SAVIOR SUPERIOR MUNDANE
-2 -1 -2 -1 -2 -1 -2 -1 -2 -1
0 +1 +2 +3 0 +1 +2 +3 0 +1 +2 +3 0 +1 +2 +3 0 +1 +2 +3
❑ Above the fray: When you enter battle as a Team against a dangerous foe, if you have Influence over the leader and provide tactical input, add 1 Team to the pool. When you contradict the leader during the battle, you may return Influence over the leader to add an additional 1 Team to the pool.
❑ Mission debrief: During a debrief, when you downplay your role in helping a teammate during the mission, mark potential and shift Superior down and any other Label up. When you exaggerate your role in helping a teammate during the mission, clear a condition and either give them Influence or lose Influence over them
❑ Always prepared: When you have a chance to restock your supplies, hold up to 2-gadgets. When you unleash your powers by producing a brand new minor invention or gadget from your supply, spend 1-gadget and roll + Superior. When you reach 0-gadgets, mark a condition.
❑ Tactical genius: When you point out the obvious flaw in a known foe’s plan, roll + Savior. On a hit, you’re right, and another teammate (your choice) can take advantage; they get +1 ongoing to act on your information. On a 7-9, pick one:
    Conditions
❑ Afraid
❑ Angry
❑ Guilty
❑ Hopeless
❑ Insecure
(-2 to directly engage a threat)
(-2 to comfort

  Backstory
• How did you first reveal your genius to your friends or family?
• Why did you decide to use your intellect for the benefit of others?
• What accident or misfire taught you some sense of humility or responsibility?
• Who helped you realize you need other people?
• Why do you care about the team?
Once you’ve finished your backstory, introduce your character to the other players, and then determine what happened when your team first came together, the relationships between you and your teammates, and who has Influence over you.
When our team first came together...
I created something lasting and beneficial for the whole team. What was it?
Relationships
You told ____________________ about your shame and asked them for their confidence. You wish you could be a better hero, more like _____________________.
Influence
You need these people as much as they need you. Give Influence to two of your teammates.
Your Shame
You have a deep and abiding sense of guilt for something you have created or had a hand in creating. It could have been something you invented when you first came into your genius, or something you set into motion that you no longer have the power to stop. It may even be something beyond your ability to achieve again, this once-in-a-lifetime creation. Juast as you are a world-class intellect, your shame is a world-class problem. Whatever the case may be, your role in its creation is not publicly known...yet.
What is your shame?
Whenever you are confronted with your shame, either mark a condition or shift Superior down and Danger up. If your shame is an NPC, they can never lose Influence over you.
At the end of every session, answer the question:
• Did you take steps to make amends for your shame?
If the answer is yes, mark potential. If the answer is no, give Influence to one of your teammates.
❑ Scientific insight: You have achieved mastery over a field of science and technology. Name it: Robotics. Whenever you assess the situation and your field of study is directly relevant, you may ask a single follow up question.

 ❑ A cosmic phenomenon

Character Creation Thread - Kid_Midnite: Steel Ninja

A SHIELD secure flying transport was carrying alien technology for lockdown at the Cube  when it was assaulted by a cadre of A.I.M. operatives. During the turmoil, a robotic unit that identifies itself as Grey made it’s way to the backyard of Cam Turner. To save the unit, Cam agreed to act as its pilot. After managing to hold off a SHIELD field team and then joining them to defeat A.I.M. Cam got permission to keep piloting Grey.

Unbeknownst to everyone, the reason that Grey is so taken to Cam is that Cam wears a necklace of a miniaturized Tesla coil variant of Cam’s own invention. Inside the coil is a small piece of metal of Celestial design. Grey himself is of Celestial origins. Cam was working on a project in his basement that involved other such coils. It is possible they activated the Celestial component and amplified the signal, which acted as a form of beacon for Grey.

Together the two have joined the Marvels under the code name Steel Ninja. There are times when Cam uses the code name alone. When doing so, Cam wears a special power armor to protect himself.

Cam’s shame is that he tried his Tesla coil with SHIELD equipment as well. It didn’t turn out great. Cam thinks he may have created an information nexus  for some intergalactic criminals, especially AI.  Now he has to swipe every chance to fix it before an adult finds out.

There are a lot of cool ideas here, but they don't seem connected as yet.

What does accidentally being approached by a SHIELD robot have to do with being the Brain? What did Cam invent on his own that caused a dangerous cosmic phenomenon? Who really is Cam, besides a guy a cool robot asked to pilot it?

Your Moment of Truth etc. seems to be from the Soldier rather than the Brain. That said I agree that this doesn't really sound like a Brain so far. Can always just use the robot with a different playbook if that's the important part. Like, well, the Soldier, if there is already an S.H.I.E.L.D. connection. Just my two cents of course.

Also, is Grey an alien robot then?

Thanks for the heads up, guys. Especially that I had copied part of the soldier playbook instead of brain. Fixed that and added a little bit to the backstory. Hopefully it looks a little more cohesive and more like a brain role.

I have sort of been waiting to see what everyone else was doing to make sure that I am creating a character that fits.

I like Steel Ninja and he will work as either a Brain or a Soldier, depending on what aspects of Cam you focus on.  If you get some extra credit potential, you might be able to get a move from the 'other' playbook than the one you eventually choose.  This might help you bridge the gap between Brain Soldier Cam seems to fit into. :-)

Since the game is turning out to be quite a bit different than I expected, maybe I should take the Outsider playbook instead. Same concept and background, just the different mechanics.

Meaning you primarily play the robot, and the kid as the robot's friend/sidekick?

If you'll be going Outsider instead of Brain, you could actually go back to the original background wherein the kid got lucky rather than being a supergenius who attracted the robot to him.

Any idea where the robot is from?

There is more than enough here to work with.  Thank you for adding so much to the game.  You don't need to do anything else for now. :-)
