Character Creation Thread - FPSMC :)

Anything that you want The Watcher to know about your character, please copy it over to your character creation thread, rather than relying upon him to track down info in any other public or private thread.  He has taken on a populous game, so the easier we can make it for him, the sooner we can get up and running.  Many thanks. :)

I figure Jubilee could fit into any of the The Delinquent, the Beacon or The Protégé. None's an exact match; The Beacon is not really expected to have powers and she has them, and while she was Wolverine's sidekick for a long time he didn't expect or want her to be anything like him. So I'm a little unsure.

The Beacon's concept isn't so much "doesn't have powers" as "doesn't have amazing powers". To be the Beacon, people have to be questioning why you're allowed to be on a super team. Jubilee is definitely in that list. Keep in mind that both Cypher and Kamala Kahn are listed as inspirations, and both definitely have powers. It's all about how you present yourself and what story you want to tell.

I can easily see her as the Beacon as the most obvious playbook for her, but can also see her being the Delinquent if you want to go that route.

Yep, I agree. Jubilee could definitely fit in the Beacon playbook. Note that one of the listed abilities is phasing, which is absolutely a power, and I think a nod from Masks that a character like Kitty Pryde (back when she was a teenager) with low-level powers fits the concept.

Jubilee just doesn't strike me as delinquent "enough" for the delinquent playbook, but that's just me.

Hmmm, do the Drives actually do anything, or are they just decorative?

No, they give you experience (potential), can "heal" you (clear a condition), and give you influence over someone.  They're actually quite powerful.

These story-driven behaviors push you to play toward Beacon-inspired goals and reward you pretty nicely for it.

Hmmm. Well, I suppose as Beacon, she would be:

Abilities: Acrobatics, her 'pafs'

Danger -1, Freak -1, Savior+2, Superior +1, Mundane +2

Backstory: How did you gain your skills?: "Born with them. Part of being a mutant. I didn't know I had them until I got into big trouble, though, or what seemed like big trouble back then. Now it doesn't count as big trouble unless there are at least some killer robots."

When did you first put on your costume?: "Costume? What, the pink sunglasses and the yellow raincoat? It's not a costume, it's stylish. Seriously. Stop laughing. Now, I wore a real costume for a while when I was with the X-men... oh, have I told that story before?"

Who, outside of the team, thinks you shouldn't be a superhero?: "The Professor won't let me travel around with Wolive anymore. Some garbage about how the most dangerous people in the world are always trying to kill him, and people he cares about keep ending up dead. Yeah, I know all that. That's why he needs me."

Why do you try to be a hero?: "Why not? It's exciting, it's fun, it's cool, and I'm good at it. What do you mean three out of four isn't bad? I'm plenty strong. I just didn't look it compared to the people I hung around with. Which people? Well, when I was with the X-men..."

Pretty much a superhero: Jubilee was an X-man, the youngest ever. She's extremely proud of this fact and mentions it pretty much whenever she can, and resents the fact that people don't take her nearly as seriously as they used to when she was with the team

Suck it, Domitan: Jubilee's 'pafs' are actually quite powerful, she just doesn't use them that way as she subconsciously holds back to avoid hurting people. Under sufficient duress, though, she's much more dangerous and effective. (Uncanny X-men #257, Generation X #26)

Looks good to me! So given how Marvel time is all weird and we're in a parallel universe, how do you see her time with the X-Men? How old was she when she joined, how long was she with them, and how old is she now?

Great question! Judging anyone's age in comics is pretty much impossible beyond "kid" and "not kid". So I guess... 14, two years with the X-men, now sixteen?

So since you mention Professor X and Wolverine in your "who doesn't think you should be a superhero" question, does that mean they (and of course their disapproval, which is the whole point of that question) will be coming up? If we don't want to bring them in, would anyone else qualify? (At this point it's your job to give the GM some people who will try to tell you who they think you should be.)

What do you think of the team? How do you see yourself, a veteran hero, among all us new kids?

You can't really have Jubilee without Wolverine; they're superhero/sidekick or father/daughter pretty much. Actually, if I can earn the advancements fast enough I was going to pick up Fireside Chat from the Protégé moves set so we can talk; that was what made me think Protégé might work for me. "He always takes my calls, unless he's fighting ninjas. He fights a lot of ninjas. Or doing that thing where he goes off to the wilderness for a couple of weeks and beats up poachers."
The basic idea is that the Prof and most of the other X-Men (Wolverine excepted) would feel that she's not yet in control of her powers enough and just plain too young to be fighting Magneto and the other cosmic-level threats they encounter on a daily basis.

So we're definitely gonna be seeing Wolverine and the Professor. :P

Actually, I think I'll be younger since Jubilee only turned 16 late in Generation X's run. The series preview issue actually gave her age as 13 and a half but that seems younger than she was in Uncanny X-Men before that. Fun with comic book time!

Jubilee can be any teen age.  And yes, it is not Jubilee without Wolverine and Professor X.  They were going to show up anyway, but you have made them legit.

I'm glad you are not going the vampire route (although that is completely your choice if you wish).  But you do realize that Vamp Jubilee is the only vampire that can legitimately sparkle in the sunlight. ;-)

Drives: Lead the team successfully in battle: "As the most experienced, it's only natural I'll be the team leader. Have I lead a team before? I mean... of course I have. Would I lie about something like that?"

Make out with a teammate: I think Jubilee's most successful romance may still have been the one with Robin, so this is a must.

Pull of a ridiculous stunt: Both for the thrills and to prove she can handle herself.

Help a teammate when they most need you

When I think of a Beacon, Jubilee usually comes to mind.  She is a classic character who will be an asset to the team.  I'm looking forward to what you will bring to the character.  You don't have to do anything else for now. :-)

Lol I love your drives Jubilee!  Lots of fun and potential for role play.  Ho knows, maybe SC will be the one who needs helping :-)
