That Song By Julie Brown about Homecoming Queens

Jack sends the fact that it's an ipecac derivative to Lydia. Sorry to make you panic. I was going to come and get you shortly, but I figured I'd let you stay there until we had things resolved here and a solution to whatever it was.

He also sends off a message to HT: I don't know if they actually got Roger, he touched someone just before they tagged him with those tasers, he might be playing along.

Looking at the phone, he starts reading everything on it and trying to make sense of whatever apps Roger was using to control things. Staying out of line of sight from the stage for the moment.

In reply to Jack Sharpe (msg # 973):

Darja is flying the van to the roof of the closest police station.

Roger's/Hollister's phone is crowded with aps.  Like crazy crowded.

Besides the usual Band Camp and Google Maps, there are a few interesting apps.

<mono>

MERCS R US

POWEREDGRID

SIGNAL PULSE

EDLOCK
<mono>

Let me know if you want to try one of those

You also find that Roger is keeping a To Do list.

-Fuck w/Sarah
Done

-Kill Whitefalls
Close but no cigar

-Kill Dan

-Is Kev still breathing?

-Who R New Students?
Odelia A, Ron The Douche, Accent Chick, Creepy Mia, ?, and ?

-WHO IS MANITOU????

Your phone buzzes.

Lydia (not quite)

It's Marlene.  Your GF is hurling in the toilet.  Do I need to take to ER????

HT

Our guys are saying under control but they may not have noticed what you saw.  GS is contacting them now.  Look for any other program students and evac them.  Roger won't take over metas.  But if he knows who they are he will target.

We're still twenty minutes out.  Once I can contact Omen GS will send him over.  In meantime, do what you think is necessary.  I got your back and trust your judgement.  You and Darj are boots on the ground until we arrive.

Jack makes a note to help decompile Roger's work in a bit, but for now he manually removes the battery and puts the two pieces into his pocket. Glad that Roger hasn't identified him. The 'signal pulse' and 'edlock' are the ones that aren't immediately obvious, the power grid probably affects the power in the area.

He also makes note to mention to Kevin that he's on Roger's hit list still.

What the fuck is Manitou?

Jack looks at his phone when he sees the text from Marlene and replies: Current prognosis from Program docs is that it's an ipecac deriv. I'm going to send someone with a car to pick you both up, just hang tight.

He then sends a second message to that effect to Gutshot directly: Please send someone with the program to pick up Lydia and aunt Marlene, Lydia was exposed, and I need her looked after.

A second response to HT: He knows Odelia, Ron, Darja and Mia, doesn't know me or anyone else you guys have hidden even from me. I have Roger's phone, he didn't activate two of the apps he has on here so there are still two more packages he can activate somewhere. "Edlock" and "Pulse" I've shut down the phone for now.

Looking around, he looks for Darja--sees she's off--checks Ron and will relocate him to several blocks away. Not being extra gentle about it, he drops the boy in a neighborhood pool.

He hasn't seen Odelia or Mia, but he'll move them more gently. Putting on his handy Luchadore mask to protect his identity.

In reply to Jack Sharpe (msg # 975):

Two of the SWAT team pick up Hollister and escort her out of the room.  The others start working crowd control.

GS responds quickly.  R They at UR place?  Will send out a runner

Darja is pulling the mercs out of the van.  She's disabled the gun and is dumping the mercs into the arms of some cops who came out onto the roof.

You can 'see' Kev.  He's in fur and seems to be on his way here.  You guess he'll be here in five.

Odelia seems MIA.  You recall seeing her before.  But she either left or she's turned into an animal.  You see some rats in the ventilation system.  Nothing new there.  Birds outside.  A bat hanging around on the ceiling in one corner.

You've only seen Mia from a distance.  But you don't see her here at all.

Colby is out in the hallway.  He's helping some of the students who doubled over, mostly helping them make it to a garbage can.

He looks around nervously.  "Where are they?" he's muttering to himself.  He seems to trying to smell for someone.  Probably Darja and you.

HT comes back.  EDLOCK is a black program.  Used to pick high security computer locks.    I have someone checking Signal Pulse, but I think it's got something to do with EMP.  Either activates them or protects against. You named everyone I know is in the program

As you dunk Ron, you 'see' back at the school that more of the program people have arrived.  They've also laid out some kind of mobile track that's letting ambulances easily jump the curb and come through into the parking lot.

News crews are showing up as well.

You spot Dan.  He's pushing against the flow of students who are trying to exit the building.  He looks like he's trying to head further into the school.  Near the shop classes.

Darja speaks at you.  Dumping these guys on the cops.  Where do I need to go next?

Jack replies to Gutshot without delay: My place.

Circling back toward the school, he settles on the outskirts as he assesses the situation. Hearing back from HT, he starts trying to think of what sort of computer Roger had intended to be probing. Knowing how prepared the man is, he starts looking after the Program agents and memorizing the contents of their pockets. He'll watch to see if any of them picks up an extra phone.

He sends a text back to Hardtime and Gutshot: I suspect that Roger MAY have swapped with one of the chaperone-agents before he was knocked out--that may have been his plan all along. If the apps on his phone would disable security, the goal may have been to get to a computer system in the Program and use the app to get some info. I suggest you lock down any access to your systems that that program can get through—also, Odelia is probably a bird or something so I can't tell which anaimal is her, and Mia has vanished. I dumped Ron in a pool. He has apparently been talking with Roger. Speak to Dan and Ron about it if you want more details, but I got the feeling he knew this might be about to happen.

Just speculation, but if Roger is as prepared as Jack thinks, he'll have had some backup phones to use if he had to switch bodies.

Which means the EMP is still in play as well..

He starts looking for magnets of a large variety and other devices, expanding the radius of his search to nearby power stations as well.

He sends a text to Colby as he hovers, checking the area visually while he texts: Colby, Darja and I are fine, we're doing our best to control what we can. The students are, at present, just vomiting because of ipecac. The police and ambulance crew are outside the parking lot. Just direct people there and then get some distance from the school.

Thinking about it, he answers Darja as she asks: Roger still might be active so keep an eye out. I'm looking for an EMP device. Nothing really requiring strength or flight at present. Maybe help Colby get everyone out to the police/ambulances.

Who's Dan?

Gutshot cuts HT off before you get a chance.  I know who he is.  We'll send someone to collect

Thanx on the heads up

You notice the elevators down to the Program area stop working.

Colby texts you back.  Dude that smell.  It's back and it's really really bad.  It's like under the school

In one of the shut down elevators, the two guards who have Hollister look at the lift panel.  They seem to be getting orders over their headsets.

Darja sotto voce's you.  On it.  I got a ping from HT.  He wants me to pick up Ron and Odelia.  Mia didn't come tonight.  She's like that.

Dan walks past one of the shop classrooms and doubles back.  The door is open and a couple are inside the room.

"What are you two doing?"

The guy is supporting the girl who's nursing her stomach.

"Tryin' to get out.  It's a madhouse at the front door."

Dan tells them it's cleared up and starts to head down the hallway.

The Program people seem to have the situation more and more under control.  Medical personal are showing up.  People are being evacuated.

In the elevator, one of the guards says, "Well poo."

He then takes out a gun and shoots the other one when the guy's back is turned.

"Guess I'll have to wait for Plan B to kick in."

You spot what might be an EMP set up. It's in one of the science labs.

Jack sends a text to Colby: Split. If it's on purpose it'll affect you the worst, I'll do my best to figure out what it is.

He then sends a text to the Program folks again: That smell from the other day is back, program area.

And a followup when he figures out which of the guards is Roger.

Guard with brown hair and blue eyes in the elevator is Roger's current host. Spotted the EMP it's in one of the labs, on my way, he's planning for it to go off. He knows you shut down the floors.

At which point he zips through the school as fast as he can, using his visual abilities and not-totally-incompetent level of knowledge about electronics to defuse the thing if he can. If he doesn't think he'll be able to, he plans to take it out the window and put it into space.

Colby scrambles for the nearest exit.  He's looking green.  Maybe he had some punch and it's just now kicking in.  Or maybe this 'smell' is getting to him.

Roger is leaning against the wall of the elevator, humming the theme from the Kyrie of Mozart's Requiem.

You don't see anything else that looks like an EMP device.  But you do notice something:

That couple that Dan stopped earlier.  They're doing something in one of the cars parked in the auto shop class.  Not sex.  They're changing a tire on the car.

You can't 'see' inside the tire.

Jack of course realizes that the smell is an indicator, at least somewhat likely, of an unknown meta. He’ll have to try to spot them after he deals with the tire. When he spots the couple messing with the tire, he immediately moves to intercept them, moving them first away from the tire before he turns to the couple and asks: “What’s in the tire?”

His luchadore mask coming in handy.

He doesn't ignore Roger and Colby, and even as he talks to them he continues to look around.

Roger has started going through his host's pockets.  He's taken out the guy's wallet and is studying a picture in one of the cellophane windows.

"Jeesh.  That is one ugly kid..."

The couple stare at you, seemingly lost for words.  It must be the mask.

The girl shrugs.  "It's a tire.  Air, I guess?"

The guy shrugs as well.  "You wanna see it? Here."

He throws the tire at you.

If you weren't you, there would have been consequences.  The guy is strong.  Not, you know, you strong.  But strong enough.

The girl's eyes are flashing with a red light.  The light seems to be forming something in the air between the three of you.

Jack catches the tire with one hand, arm fully extended as he intercepts it from the air and then, not about to relinquish it, moves to disable the duo who seem to be a pair of meta mercenaries. “Mercenaries then, attacking a high school, very classy,” he remarks even as he blurs around the room, avoiding the light so that he can knock the woman unconscious first, the man may require some attenuation of his strength so that he doesn’t kill him.

Once he has them both unconscious, he sends a text to Gutshot: Two meta mercs unconscious, one with enhanced strength and one that was creating some sort of light show. In the autoshop with a secondary device, taking care of it now.

He then puts his phone back away and starts the process of looking over the tire, thinking about how he wants to approach it.

The girl goes down easily.  Almost too easy. But her breathing pattern fits someone who's out.

The light she emitted doesn't go out.  It hangs in the air, a little red will o' the wisp.

The tire is too heavy.  Peeling through the 'rubber', you can see a metal coil apparatus underneath.  This must be the back up EMP.

The will o' the wisp suddenly darts out of the room and into the hallway.  It seems to be headed in the direction Dan went.

Darja sotte voces Looks like the program has things under control out here.  You need for anything?

Colby has gotten out of the building.

Dan has some kind of sheet of paper that he's studying.  He has his back to the will o' the wisp that's coming his way.

Jack makes sure that both of them are unconscious, thinking that the girl might be projecting her consciousness and her brain is still active, he gives her another flick on the melon to make sure that she’s truly discombobulated before he takes off after the wisp. Disabling the tire-EMP as he moves, and tossing it into one of the random classrooms on the way.

Disabled secondary device, tossed it in classroom 219. KO’d the two metas, they’re in the autoshop. One with enhanced physical strength and a girl who could make a will-o-wisp sort of thing that is now chasing after Dan. I’m moving to intercept.

Darting along, he moves Dan out of the path of the wisp, by several hundred feet, glancing at the piece of paper he’s looking at as he does so.

Once he has moved Dan, he glances back, curious if the wisp is still following.

There might be an unknown meta or something in the area, keep your ears open,
he answers back to Darja even as he sets Dan down. His voice distorted by the mask and the fact that he's speaking Estonian.

The paper Dan is looking at has the following written on it

<i>He's going to try something with the Program computer.

If you want to stop him, you need to get in there.

There's an elevator hidden in the closet at the end of the shop hallway.  Look for the second lightswitch in the center of the right wall.

The note is accurate.  There is an elevator down to the Program in that direction.

Dan blinks when he's suddenly moved.  "Wha'tha'fu-" he pithily opines.

The will o' the wisp stops and hovers there for a moment.  Then it jets forward, at a speed even you have to admit is impressive.

You can move Dan aside, but it is close.  This thing is fast.

It zips past you and veers around.  Coming back for another swing.

It seems she is intent on hitting Dan.

Jack lets loose first off with a blast of heat at the wisp, just to test the waters so to speak. The paper basically details what he'd already deduced.

Ripping the front of a locker off, he moves Dan aside again like a matadore and tries swatting the wisp from the air with the hunk of metal.

It's not that he's afraid it can hurt him, but if blocking with his body fails he'd need to move Dan rather far away until the Program can come up with a solution.

While he puzzles it out, he does his best to lower his voice and says the wisp: "If you're conscious in there girly, you should know that I don't have to leave your body completely unbroken, and I take attacks on children very seriously."

It's a bluff, there's no way he'd rip the arms off an unconscious woman just to make a point, but she doesn't know that. There are cowls out there, and at the moment he's a complete unknown.

The note hand written or computer printed?

"A lot of things. Who gave you this? And what were you going to possibly do to Roger when you found him in the elevator? Shake your fist at him? He can switch bodies," he asks, pointing at the note. He's still distorting his voice, making it less obvious that it's him.

Pulling out his phone, his finger whisks across it sending some quick messages before it is put away again. From Dan's perspective, it barely comes out before he puts it away again.

To the Program: Two metas are KO'd in the autoshop. One can project a wisp of energy that moves fast, might cause damage. The other is enhanced strength, not sure what else. They were after Dan and were trying to activate the second EMP device. It has been disabled and dispatched in room 213.

It’s not a lack of interest in stopping him, it’s a lack of ability to stop someone who can jump between innocents. If all it took was throwing him into space, I could do that right now,” he mentions.

A pause.

“Anyway, I’ll bring you to the field, clench up all of your muscles tight, tuck your chin,”
he tells the young man and then moves him out onto the field before zipping back inside.

As he heads back in, he is taking account of the final variable still in play as far as he can tell: Roger himself.
