See the bit about living "out of the limelight" in this thread first:

Every adventure takes a fixed time (a tenday), whether or not the "live" adventure time is tendays or not. The extra time is for your travelling, healing, training etc. This ensures that all adventures are on the same timeframes and you can move easily from one adventure to the next.
Of course, during the extra time you have to pay for your upkeep etc. depending on your social scale (as explained in the above mentioned thread), and the more you advance, the more the social status is important.
If you want to improve your character between one adventure and the following adventure, it will take some training time, i.e. one or more tendays where you pass your time training instead of adventuring.
Of course, you are not forced to take two adventures on subsequent tendays, even if you have no training etc. In this case, you will just relax and let some time pass.
As some of you have puppies to grow, you may want to let this time pass and wait until they grow up, for example.
If you check out the last adventure you took part to, you will see that it has start and end dates that can be taken as a reference. Of course your nect adventure will start at least after the end date of your last one.
