Re: New server, new version

So, looking at User Preferences, subscriptions won't be too far away (at least in version if not time)?

Re: New server, new version

I have a question.. is there a way to enlarge the number of searches displayed in the search thing?

it shows 25 at a time, and I know that often I've just browsed the whole list of fantasy games, and even found some I've played it.  I'd really like to do that, but with how many there are I'd like to just skim down the whole list, and not have to push next like 20 times..

so yeah, is there a way to increase the number of search results shown per time?

I don't think so, it's explained in another Thread but I forget which one :P

bigbadron:
25 is a good compromise between displaying as many as possible and throwing too much work on the server at one time.

Re: New server, new version

I very rarely 'Search' for games so I don't see it becoming a problem for me.

Besides, I'm happy that this should cure all the outages until RPoL becomes even bigger.

From my point of view a fair enough compromise though I'm sure those who do Search more often may have a difference of Opinion :)

Re: New server, new version

you know what this new version needs?  a REFRESH BUTTON!

that would be amazing. specially in the dark when I hit F4 or F6 a couple of times before finding F5

hopefully someone with the power to do something about my idea(jase) be it toss it, accept it for the future, or stay up for 2 days straight trying to make it work will read this.

just thought about that....

Doesn't your Browser just come with one?

That's all I click.

(And I'm not sure if it'd be possible to Code in any case :) )

Re: New server, new version

yea, but its really tiny and up in the middle of other buttons....

I could just remember that next time before posting this though...

Plus, to make a refresh button, cant you just have a page link back to itself?

I'm no Coder (Not much anyway) but I don't think so, I'm sure there are tonnes of other variables that I don't know about :P

I think you'll just have to make do with trying to click it :P (I find it easier to click Refresh than any other way)

Oh yeah!

You could just click on the RPoL Logo at the Top Left of the screen.

That technically refreshes it.

That's what I do because I'm too lazy to find the back button on my browser.  hee!

Re: New server, new version

Ctrl + R or Ctrl + Shift + R works on Firefox. I've never even known about the F5 until someone here mentioned it... *blush*

I still think I like the changes made to the site. I'm easily pleased. Especially since I more or less only run games here, having all of them in the same place helps me keep track of when and where I need to post next. Previously it got a bit out of hand. It is mighty pleasing for an OCD GM to get their things arranged and in order. ;)

and gets you to say YOUR password? >:|

Re: New server, new version

I have just noticed something however in this new version, when linking to games for game ads in a game ad thread (game in question not named) only the link saying the game ID number is seen, it not longer says Link to "game here" Is this intended?

Yep.  The beta site discussed it somewhere around late February in the Version thread.

Re: New server, new version

It does not look as nice as it did though, looks like a bug because when a player posts and ad the link is to be expected to be the game name. not just the game.cgi&gi=numbers here with out the name showing as Link to "namehere" the former version of the linking was more ordered and actually nicer.

Also as a Gm in a game the A href links don't work anymore.

Found the discussion on the beta site. It's posts 8 through 12 in this thread and includes info on how to manually make those links again if you really want them.

Re: New server, new version

*is crosseyed from reading Beta now* I'm just glad the font, which has to be 2-3 sizes smaller, didn't carry over from new.rpol.net to the live site, and I hope the same is said of Beta when/if it goes live.

Re: New server, new version

In reply to ashlayne (msg #42):

Beta is beta and will stay as such, anything done on beta does not effect the live site, known to us all as the normal or Main site. Beta is where each version is tested and worked on before going to this version of the site, so saying thus the next version for example would be 1.6.50 wouldbe in the testing stages on the beta site.

In reply to ashlayne (msg #42):
Be sure you adjust your font, as you've likely done on RPoL ages ago and forgot.  For example, on IE, you can do this through View -> Text Size -> Larger.  In FireFox, View -> Text Size -> Increase.

In reply to cruinne (msg #44):

Thank you, Zeldi and Cru! I'll have to remember that next time I go to Beta. Although... this is a new laptop, purchased two weeks ago, and I didn't set any fonts on it except the default font type (not size) when I got it to my prefs. *shrug*
