Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

((ooc: Just to confirm: the strike team is Corym, Kitheras, Karilla, Elorfindar, and Krackor. Sirenya can cover all of you with Invisibility 10' Radius and hide the door open with Phantasmal Force. You'll need to either rope yourselves together again to stay within the invisibility (the way you did when you first came to the mansion), or walk basically arm in arm. Either way, I need Dexterity checks from everyone.

The halfling burrow has two entrances: north and south. You've seen hobgoblins coming out of both. Which do you want to attack through?))

I want the others to stay a short distance away while I go to do my recon.

I would think that hand-to-hand would be better for the run up to a combat.  Don't want to be tied to everyone during a fight.

So when are we going, now, tonight or in the morning?
If we attack the furthest entrance, it would likely look like we came from that direction, just in case anyone knows what they are looking for.

Okay--One of the spells I'm going to prepare is a Invisibility spell for myself.  If I need to go in, I'll have it ready to cast.  I'll look at/in both doors

11:58, Today: Kitheras Sunblade rolled 20 using 1d100.  Move Silently.

Then there may be other spells I can call for which would better prepare us all.
How would some squeaky flooring where the Hobgoblins are help with knowing where they are?
I don't have my net any more but a heavy blanket on those without weapons drawn may hinder them considerably.

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

((ooc: Since the timeline is getting a bit confused, I want to post a quick summary here. I don't have the exact date, since I forgot to copy my game calendar from my main computer before I moved, and I haven't gotten my stuff back from storage yet. The version I have on this computer is much older, and it's too much work to reconstruct.

Day 1: Arrival in Myth Drannor around mid-day. Group shelters in a former inn on the southern edge of the city. Kitheras, Corym, and Sirenya do an initial area scout at dusk and find the Blephel mansion.
Day 2: Group relocates to the Blephel mansion. Fight with the living lightning and living fire. Nap spell at noon. Group begins work on an inventory of the lower level library while wounds regenerate (3,000 gp in total). Talindra's sanity restored.
Day 3: Efreeti fight. Kitheras knocked to death's door. Krackor clears rotted wood from student dining hall and chapel.
Day 4: Lianthorn fight in the early morning. Mansion fully explored. Cellar door attempted, but unable to be opened. Kitheras and Sirenya scout the neighborhood, return around mid-day. Karilla and Krackor keep watch on buildings #10 and 13 until dusk, spotting hobgoblins coming from #13.

It is now dusk on your fourth day in the ruins. You haven't had a chance to recover spells yet from the Lianthorn fight or the neighborhood scouting session. Do you want to go out and attack the hobgoblins now, or wait until morning?))

Fifth Day in Myth Drannor

With Katarn volunteering to keep watch during the early evening, and Talindra off to herself in her master's casting chamber, the group settles down for the night. It passes uneventfully, the interior of the mansion as quiet as a grave, if somewhat less unsettling. In the morning, you reconvene over morningfeast, ready to make final preparations for the attack on the hobgoblins.

((OOC: You said that both rooms could be investigated without going inside, so Kitheras was going to do that.  The way his ability works--he's the one that has to give the plan of attack, so our game plan is mostly dictated by his reconnaissance.

Thusly, Kitheras will have the party shelter nearby while he does some close recon of the two doors.))

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

Kitheras slowly and carefully makes his way to the north entrance to what was once Curiosities Cold and Clear. With the wide door long since gone to dust, he's able to peer inside without much issue, shifting slightly to get a better angle.

Inside is a large, open room. Its ceiling is low at about seven feet, and there are several windows that will make it decently lit in the afternoon, once the sun comes overhead instead of shining from the east. It's still recognizably a tavern floor, with the ruins of a bar along the far wall, though all of the tables and chairs are gone. Large chunks of stone have been pulled inside and set up as makeshift tables that also happen to provide cover for someone crouching. Four hobgoblins are standing sentry deep inside. They appear alert and have both axes and long bows close at hand. They're not moving much, no doubt worried about making noise that would reach out into the ruins.

Moving around to the back door, Kitheras looks in on what was once a fine halfling kitchen. The ceiling is much lower, around five feet, which is noticeably cramping the three hobgoblins standing sentry. The walls are lined with cabinets whose doors have been torn off and a pair of rusted iron stoves. There is also copious counter space, made with thick sheets of granite two knuckles thick. As with the front room a single door leads further inside and the sentries remain alert and quiet.

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

In reply to DM (msg # 965):

Whilst Kitheras is doing his thing, Krackor is inspired by the gifts of the Bronzed Lord.

Corym, if you will hear me out, I have a plan for the gifts I shall ask for as follows.

With two entrances, I am hoping that at least one of the rooms passed them is for the smaller sized peoples like myself.  I shall go close to this entrance invisible if I may, and guard it.  This will be my post and I shall watch through the door.

When I have positioned myself, with Crossbow ready, I will create an Anti-Vermin barrier from the doorway outwards.  After a short enough period for me to become fully acquainted with my post, I shall cast a spell on these three stones.
  Showing three stones he had collected earlier from the rubble below.  Then cast Silence with a 15 foot radius around the entrance way and slightly into it, avoiding me.  Then with you all within 5yds of me, I shall cast Defensive Harmony on you all, this will give you additional order to your combat, meaning you will remember the training you have had and seen, thus allowing you to work better and more defensively together.

I will then cast Caltops throughout the complex followed by Summoning Insects in the area.  Because they won't be able to exit through the entrance I am guarding, the insects will go through the complex, the Hobgoblins moving over caltrops and getting stung, taking damage and with luck, rushing into the other side, your side of the complex, still affected by the Caltrops and potentially by the Insects that make it through.  I will then Call Upon Holy Might to increase my ability to throw.  Throw the stones at any Hobgoblins that try to exit my side and then fire my crossbow at them or vice versa, encouraging them to head your way.  Once they have left the back part, I can cancel the Insect Swarm, the Hobgoblins no doubt confused and in pain now, I cancel the Caltrops and give the signal, I enter the rear as you enter the front.

As nothing would have been going on at your side, I'd imagine my banging on the door to the rear entrance will draw the Hobgoblins attention, you then enter, invisibly and with the noise I am making, silently and take them out in a harmonious battle dance.

Giving time for this to sink in, he follows up with These are all spells you have seen me utilise before except the Harmonious Defense one, just never in this manner before.

With Kitheras' analysis of the complex, this may also enhance things.

(OOC: Spells:
* Anti-Vermin Barrier - stops insects and rats etc entering it - 1hr/level. (ToM)
* Magical Stones - enchants 3 pebbles, all thrown in same round - 30mins. (PHB)
* Silence 15ft Radius - 2rds/level (16rds). (PHB)
* Harmonious Defense - +1 AC for every other person in combat, eg 2x people = +1AC, 3x people = +2AC - 1rd + 2d4rds. (ToM)
* Caltrops - Sows magical caltrops through area (160 square yards - 5yds wide x 32yds long should do it)(turn to cast) - 1turn/level. (ToM) (pg62 Arms & Equipment for Caltrops 1d4hp)
* Summon Insects - 70% chance flying - 2hp if fleeing, otherwise 4hp/rd (PHB)
* Draw Upon Holy Might - +1/3levels to either Str, Dex, Con, Cha - (+2 Dex) - 1rd/level (ToM)

Can you tell my brain is working again!)

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

((ooc: With rare exceptions, you can't cast a spell on a place you can't see. So you could cast caltrops on the tap room or the kitchen, but they wouldn't spread further into the inn through closed doors. And insect swarm only affects one person. The insect barrier would prevent it from dispersing back into the ruins, but after the spell ends there aren't enough of them to be more than a minor annoyance to anyone else in the room. For "carpet of insects tearing everything apart as they advance," you need Creeping Doom.

The rest of the buffing magics should work, though it's 150 feet from the front door to the back, so you'd probably have to gather somewhere in the middle to be within casting range of each other.))

(ooc:  That is fine, he only needs to occupy those he can see and have them run into the other room, distracted by what is in the Kitchen.  The bleed into other room is in case the door is open,  I wasn't expecting it to go through, at the moment of speaking the above, Krackor doesn't know if the door is open or shut, not how many Hobgoblins are there)

((ooc: Just to be clear, you want to buff yourself and the party, put an anti-vermin barrier and silence 15' radius on the door to the kitchen, cast caltrops into the kitchen, and then cast insect swarm on one of the hobgoblins. Correct? With the hope of driving the hobgoblins further into the inn.))

(ooc: Anti-Vermin Barrier and Silence 15ft Rad is on the Outside Door, is assuming the entry doesn't have a door.
Either getting the Hobgoblins to come out or to get them to cower further in, staring at the kitchen door, especially when Krackor goes in and knocks on it.
Only buff for him that would be in affect is the Dex boost - missile attack, reaction and additional +2AC, he'll get no AC benefit from the Harmonious Defence, that is for the other members of the raid)

Re: Expedition to Myth Drannor

So we've got Corym and Kitheras that can have some hope of peneterating the room with stealth.  I think Corym and Kitheras should do that in order to prevent an alarm deeper into the compound. EDIT: Given how alert they are, we'll probably make the attempt with the invisibility magics. Leaving the siblings temporarily exposed outside--though Karilla has alluded to the fact that she can make herself scarce.

Karilla and Elorfindar should bring the pain from the exterior door.  I'll be able to get a backstab off, and Kitheras should be able to off one quickly in a surprise round of full attacks.

Karilla watched all of the preparation of her companions with mild amusement. She readied herself for battle and knew that she would position herself front and center for the fight. After the creatures she had spent decades fighting, a large group of hobgoblins was a welcome change.
