Requiem: Rome, Prohibition Era, or '80s?

Thinking about what would make for an interesting Vampire: the Requiem game (maybe with a little Mummy or other lines thrown in), and a few great ideas come to mind. Which are worth fleshing out?

Rome
Requiem for Rome would be fun to play around with. As far as historical settings go, it's far enough back to seem fantastical, and yet the setting is kind of an awesome mix for urban fantasy. Intrigue in the Necropolis, dark powers emerging from legend, and the wolves howling in the wilderness?

New Wave Requiem
'80s gusto and vampire life. What's not to love? I'm thinking some kind of regime change here, where a Prince is dealing with an influx of Strix as well as a changing climate among the Kindred, burgeoning into a full-blown vampiric civil war.

Prohibition Era
What's an awesome addition to speakeasies, stylish mobsters, femme fatales, and antihero detectives in over their heads? Vampires and other urban fantasy types. Mysteries, I think, and a time of upheaval and struggle in both the mortal and supernatural worlds. What's the deal with that mysterious new artifact the local museum has on display? What's this new occult threat in the shadows of the underworld?

I suppose there are some interesting runners-up! I think the Neolithic setting presented in one of the books could be fun, but for Vampire, probably one of these would be good. Maybe the Victorian era, but I'm a lot less familiar with what was going on across the pond then. I suppose we could fake it well enough?

Requiem: Rome, Prohibition Era, or '80s?

As a child of the 80's, it might be an interesting decade to re-explore.

Generally would be interested in any of them but Rome and Prohibition definitely spark a giggle. If only at the notion of a vampire rum runner getting done over by a hunter backed IRS audit team lol.

I’d definitely be interested in a Requiem for Rome game; Prohibition era a good bit less and 80s not so much at all. I’m a fool for most “historical” settings, though. I’m also more a fan of the other splats than vampire. Victorian could indeed be fun as well, but necessitates a bit more research.

My vote is Rome or Prohibition as well.

Happy to do Requiem, clearly I love it, especially for Rome.

I also have a soft spot for Demon if there is any cross splatting occurring. If there are Vampire and Werewolf PCs hissing at one another, a Demon gets to be friends with all of them, act as sort of a social nexus. I like playing that roll. A Prohibition era Demon running a Speakeasy?  My kind of character.

Prohibition for sure out of the three. Rome has an appeal but not as much as the roaring 20s in Chicago or New York. The 20s in Chicago under Capone. Totally vampire lackey or big boss himself.

I've actually run all three to varying degrees.

Rome obviously has the depth of resources, but you've really got to lean into it and hope your players do too in order to get the most out of the setting, both because a lot of people have different reference points for what they think Ancient Rome is (even before you add the Vampiric and Requiem for Rome templates) and you lose a fair bit of verisimilitude if you basically play modern characters with an Ancient Roman hat on. I'd also recommend potentially looking at adding a couple of additional homebrew combat styles to the game to make sure each of your players can have something thematically unique to excel in.

Prohibition era is a really good era to do Vampire in - there's a lot of themes to lean into and you can probably justify any bloodline being pretty much anywhere, and there's a lot of material to use while still having a fairly easy reference point that most players will get. There's also enough space to take the game forward into the 30s, 40s and 50s which could be useful if your players get torpored.

I think the 80s can work very nicely, but the one thing to be careful about there (beyond the possbility for real world politics to seep in) is how much the setting evokes the popular memories of the 80s (all shoulder pads and Wall Street) as opposed to the reality. It is, however, a good time to get a modern setting which is both recognisable but a bit far away and where you can feasibly avoid the 'I google it on my smartphone' response.

Beyond that, Victorian is fairly good albeit it runs the risk of just being Jack the Ripper several hundred times over, and Neolithic (while it could be fun) effectively strips most of the factions away from the setting and does away with the cities, so large chunks of the gameplay do go missing at that stage.

Some great ideas from everyone, and I have a few things to think about. We're now considering different options here.

For those of you who expressed interest first, I'll give you first crack at things before I make an ad. We're still deciding on some game setup and setting elements. Here is the game setup thus far. Please continue all discussion there, if you are interested. Thank you!

Having lived in West Seattle for about 5 years, I'd love to explore Georgetown and the area around the Duwamish in either era.

If you're interested, come on over to the game and help us do the planning there. The mods will probably lock this thread as it has likely served its purpose. Any of you who are interested, the place to discuss and play the game is now at that forum.
