[IC] The Valley of the Shadow of Death: Rural Horror
The themes: Human horror, Rural survival, Religious trauma.
"Listen team: this is a chance to really make something. A chance to make a name! Whoever gets down to Mount Pleasant and documents whats going on is going is going to get a Pulitzer for sure. If you don't have the stones to deal with some bible-bashers maybe you're not cut out to be a documentary film maker."
The 1970s were a time of unprecedented boom of fringe religious groups, but the horrific events that occurred at Mount Pleasant are what everyone remembers when they think of Appalachian cults. Without the documentary film produced by WVVA-Bluefield, the world may never have heard about the dire actions of Father Wallace Applewhite.
This game would be run using a stripped back version of Unknown Armies 2e, though it requires no knowledge of that system. It is a percentile, roll-under system, where you can name your own skills. The players would be members of a documentary film crew, and as such would be woefully ill equipped for direct combat, though their soft skills may allow for subtler approaches.
