IC Werewolf in SPACE

So the thought occurred to me while reading a few books. What if the Endgame of the Old World of Darkness happened and the various groups just moved to space? Say for whatever reason Earth is uninhabitable and that makes everyone move to space stations and lunar colonies and what have you.

Vampires, Mages, Garou, Fera, Wraith(?), Changeling, the whole lot more or less. Hunters would be like the police force since they can pretty much take on most of the supernaturals on an even footing depending on the builds. And they work in synergy iirc.

Using the current solar system as the basis the following groups would hold away in these areas.

Vampires hold The Dark Zone the area past Jupiter where the sun is the faintest. They actually are trying to go outside the star system. Hasn't gotten very far.

Mages hold the area around Mars. Because they are mages. A few of them seem fanatically obsessed with the Face on Utopia Plateau.

Garou and Fera hold Old Earth. They are attempting to make Earth habitable again and are going to great lengths to do so.

The rest have minor holdings in various places.

I love this idea! I don't current own any of the WoD books, but would certainly look into one of them if this takes off.

What's the plot? What characters are you thinking of? Or is it more of a West Marches/players build the setting type of idea? If West Marches, how much leeway would the players have in setting up things like power structures, economy, allies/enemies, etc?

More specifically, how are these characters feeding? The idea of Vampires in space is a cool idea, but unless they're carrying a breeding stock of Humans or a ton of thralls to feed on, I'm not sure where they're going to stop off for groceries. :)

I seem to remember that in the revised Werewolf story tellers guide there was a section on alternative settings, and one of them touched on space and aliens, though it might be relevant.

For long missions using vampires I had planned on torpor until close to the destination. Most of the crew would be human. I'd have to figure out the ships and such and some of the advanced tech, but it's a thought. As for players helping set up power groups it would depend on the input. I would want input because yeah solar system level power groups vs real world analogues and some level.of thought on this.

Never saw anything like that in the Werewolf books.

Ha.  I actually ran this game.

Me and my friends were big into nWoD.  We went through several campaigns and I was wanting something a little different.

So, I put together this crazy setting where mankind expanded into outer space and all their nightmares just hitched a ride along with them.  There was a big evil government and a crazy space religion run by Hunters (though, this was before Vigil came out), and Vampires loved space stations cause there's NO DAY and Werewolves established spiritual connections with alien moons, and Mages pierced the void between the stars.  It was a little bit Shadowrun and a little bit Warhammer 40k and a little bit Equilibrium and a little bit The Expanse.

There were Vampire coteries as starship crews, Werewolves hunting spirits in space stations, Hunters stranded in a ship full of monsters, a space station populated entirely by monsters, Mages investigating the ruins of magical alien civilizations.... the works.

The group was mixed monsters running around the galaxy trying to maintain the status quo cause the other option is even worse.  Like... World of Darkness Firefly.

Good times.

There is a section on possible variant ideas in the 2002 Werewolf Storyteller handbook.  It's covers all sorts of possible ideas, none very detailed other than suggestions really.

Oh yeah that section. Or as I liked to call it Why couldn't you give even base rules for some stuff to jump off of.

Granted down the road I planned to go out into the void. Most likely using something like the jump gates in Mass Effect or Babylon 5.

Next question: which rule set would you be using? Which books would be allowed? What won't you be allowing? Like I posted earlier, I don't own any of the rpgs at the moment, but would gladly drop the $ if this becomes a thing.

In reply to 12th Doctor (msg # 9):

Would be using the Old World of Darkness rules for starters. As for which books would allowed. As of the beginning only Mummy, Demon, and Wraith wouldn't be allowed as I am completely unfamiliar with their rules in any way. I have played Hunter, Mage, Vampire, and Werewolf to some extent or other. Changeling I read, but never played.

As for which books it would be a case by case basis at this point. Still working up how ships and lasers and such would work in SAS. Might just grab whole hog from other systems that are close. Not 100% on that segment at all.

I am finding all of the end game books and reading them at the moment to see where I want to go with it. Some are far less likely than others. Kinda hard to kill the entire Garou Nation and have werewolves in space. But it is a start. Probably go for a couple of option from each set of the endgames.

I do know that The Red Star will be a factor for literally every splat. The only one mentioned across the board that I have seen so far. Just how much of a factor I have yet to decide. And I am starting to do the work for the game just got to figure out how each splat plays out and the general setting plays out as well.

I don't think he said 1st edition. There are at least 5 editions of OWoD Vamprire so I wouldn't assume 1st edition and go off spending money yet.

To be fair there are few differences between 1st and 5th of Old World of Darkness. I have up to 20th Anniversary edition for Werewolf and Vampire. Most of the rules are the same between that and 1st edition so unless they altered the rules dramatically in a newer edition it won't generally matter.

link to another game

Here is the game link. I'm still setting it up so don't get way ahead of yourself in you have to play this or that. I'm trying not to go over board on details of how and why we got to where we are, but I have to plan some.
