IC and Thoughts: GMless Star Trek Adventures?

Think it would be possible to play Star Trek Adventures without a GM? My thinking is we all create characters, set up our ship, and jointly decide on what kind of mission to go on, then all add to the story as we go along, adding momentum, threats, adjusting the dice pool, etc. as needed. Think we should be fired on by enemy Klingons? Write it in and it's a thing! Coolant leak threatening our engines unless we fix it in 20 minutes? There is now!

Thoughts? Interest?

It's certainly possible - and there are GM Emulators such as the Mythic GM Emulator that could help randomize things to a certain degree.

I would add the GameMaster's Apprentice cards from Larcenous Designs as a useful tools for random inspiration.

I'd be interested in joining in, depending on what ruleset you plan on using.

It would most likely be using Modiphius' Star Trek Adventures, as that seems to be most conducive to a co-operative GM environment, but if everyone else was keen on the old FASA system that might be fun too.

I think one of the major challenges you would face is that STA often is investigative game whether in the form of exploration, a true mystery, or scientific delve. Someone would need to have a firm grasp on what that element involves for each episode. The other issue is that the game is very team collaborative. Would the person controlling the truth of the mystery be able to contribute. Finally, the other players as they add to the story may simply derail or hurt this part of the story.

I think it could be done, but I think one player for the episode needs to take the lead to protect this element of the game.

I'd also recommend something leaning more towards the rules light side of things.  Modiphius games (the guys that do Star Trek Adventures but also the newest Conan RPG and the Infinity RPG) tend to be pretty crunchy.  But supposedly it's a pretty well designed game so maybe running it a bit more loosely than written might be worth a shot.

Lasers and Feelings might be a fun game to run as Star Trek with a few modifications.  It's a one page RPG that attempts to capture the feeling of Star Trek style sci-fi shows.
