IC : Symbaroum

Like the title says; I'm just taking a quick pulse to see if anyone would be interested in a Symbaroum game. I've just gotten my hands on some of the books and I've just fallen in love with its themes, look and general feel. Odds are, since I'm new to it, I'd probably run the tutorial adventure and if everything goes smoothly, I'd move onto one of the already published chronicles.

So, would anyone be interested in this?

I'm interested, definitely. I have the core rules and the APG and played a one-shot a while back. It's a great system and the setting is easy to engage with. I hope you get enough interest to run with it!

Well, I have never heard of it, nor do I have the books, but it looks interesting.

I have the core book, although the only time I tried to play, the game sputtered and died.  I would have to brush up in the rules, but from what I remember about the setting it seemed pretty cool (or rather, pretty grim and foreboding ... which is cool).

I'm tentatively interested.  What sorts of speed records are you looking to set?  (posts per week, etc)

I'm not planning for an extremely fast-paced game. This is my usual "Posting Rate" blurb for games I run:

Posting Rate
Try not to post more than once every eight to twelve hours or so unless everyone has "had a turn" since your last post (note that I only mean "a turn" for the folks involved in the scene... if Bob is off scouting, you don't have to wait for him if you're chatting at base).  I don't want to throttle your excitement, but it sucks when people get left out, too.

On the other hand, the GM is going to shoot for a minimum of 2 posts per week (with 3-4 being desirable).  If you plan to be gone for any length of time (1 week or more), please let us know ahead of time.

I tend to run somewhat slow-ish paced game, so bear that in mind. If we're all online at the same time and the posts start to flow, that's quite alright with me! As I've said, just keep in mind that others need time to answer :)

I have a busy personal life (work, family, kids and school), so don't expect flurries of posts every day. What I can say is I have a wonky work schedule, of which I will keep you appraised. My posting speed will vary accordingly. What I can say is that I can answer PMs and OOC every day. Proper IC posts will vary. If this is an issue for you, this might not be the game for you. </quote>

Cool. I’ll keep an eye out for this one in case it goes live.

Re: IC : Symbaroum

So far, we've got 4 people interested, so it's already looking like things might get off the ground. I'm going to let this simmer a little bit more as the rules sink into my brain.

Re: IC : Symbaroum

What a coincidence! I was just about to post if anyone had heard of this game and could give any feedback on it, as it caught my interest but I wasn't sure how well known/played it was stateside.

I was already planning on getting the core rulebook to check it out (should get it sometime this week), so I'd be interested in playing in this game as well, assuming you're ok with someone learning on the go.

Re: IC : Symbaroum

Mechanics-wise it is very simple.  I have yet to play it, but it seems like it would be a very good fit for a PbP environment.

CharGen doesn't seem laborious either (which is a plus for me).  Basically, assign some stats, pick some abilities, grab some gear, and describe your shadow — which is a neat soul / corruption / alignment analog introduced in the game — and you are done.

It's player-facing too (that is, players make all of the rolls), so that's good.

Re: IC : Symbaroum

So, the interest is there! I'll start setting up the game probably next week (give or take a few days; my son's sick so that's keeping me a bit busy).

Re: IC : Symbaroum

I'll eventually post a proper recruitment thread, but in the meantime, here's what I have up: link to another game

It's not much, but it should give those interested an idea of the direction I'm heading. If you have questions or comments, feel free to send me an Rmail.
