Warning 1, Site Content and sensitive players.

This game deals in part with the beliefs and persecutions of the time. I don't get a kick out of degrading my players, but neither do I make apologies for the sins of our fathers - what happened, happened.

So, if you would feel uncomfortable roleplaying gender and racial bias, witchcraft trials, slave trading, profanities, religious persecution, torture and debauchery, then this is probably not the game for you.

If you're still in, read on...

Warning 2, Legal Limitations:

I'm sure for most players this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway...

We are constrained by the forum rules and I'm afraid the game has to remain Politically Correct. We are limited in our roleplay of the 17th Century by the laws and expectations of our own time. There are certain places we cannot go in our pursuit of realism.

This may be something of a tightrope and I'll need you all to walk it with me. Remember, too, this game has a Mature rating, not Adult.

For example, although the F-word is permitted (in context, in character and in moderation as befits a non-Adult-rated game) the N-word (or any other racial slur) is not permitted under any circumstances, so slave traders will have to be careful and creative with their vocabulary.

Also, in the restoration period, the age of sexual consent (along with criminal liability) was 14 for boys and 12 for girls. Needless to say, that is no longer the case.
I have clarified this with the moderators and I cannot allow any scenes of intimacy with youthful partners. Today's (global) decency laws take precedence.

For game purposes ALL PCs and NPCs eligible for courtship will be assumed to be at least 18 years of age, and any characters who are obviously not of this age group are not eligible for courtship, regardless of historical accuracy.

Having said all that, let us tastefully avoid these issues as far as possible. :)

If you have any questions about the game limitations, feel free to ask on the OOC thread.
