Wizards welcome, demons tolerated! (Dresdenverse freeform)

The City That Never Sleeps is an urban fantasy game, focusing on wizards, other practitioners, humans and supernatural creatures living in NYC, who may be faced with dangers and various changes that come their way in their day to day lives. The game will be based in the Dresden Files Universe/Dresdenverse.

TL;DR? Skip to the bottom and read the summary!

SPOILER ALERT! Personally, I don't think you should have to be familiar with the Dresden Files universe or books to play this game; However, if you don't wish to run into spoilers, this is not the game for you. As with all of my games based in an already established universe, I will not require those who are familiar with the series to be careful with what they say around those who aren't- that is way too much work on my end, and is not something I wish to do.

Game Info:
Welcome to New York City, New York- a city renowned for its beautiful architecture, Broadway musicals, Wall Street, Times Square and so much more. The city is rich in history and culture, and has been hailed as the greatest city in the world by many.

NYC, The Big Apple, The Melting Pot, Gotham... the city goes by many names, but the most accurate title is The City That Never Sleeps. New Yorkers, human or otherwise, are always on the move. There is always something happening within the concrete jungle you now call a home.

The year is 1999, and you're a resident of that fair city. Humans look the other way, avoiding what they don't want to see, as they always have, preferring to pay attention to their phones rather than the horrors surrounding them.

Are you a Wizard living in the city? Are you an unknowing Human, with no connection to the supernatural community? Are you a Warden stationed in NYC, keeping an eye on an enemy of the council or an unruly Wizard? Are you one of the Fae, or maybe even one of the court's Knights? Are you a Knight of the Cross? Or, gods forbid, a Denarian? The possibilities are endless...

Regardless of who or what you are, there's always something bigger and badder.

While you may not want to believe it, there are creatures that go bump in the night, that feed on humans or anything else with a pulse.

Will you risk resting in The City That Never Sleeps?

Summary

As I previously mentioned, CTNS is an Urban Fantasy game based in the Dresdenverse. As with most, if not all, Urban Fantasy, the supernatural population will be well-hidden, most humans ignorant to the world around them. Characters will need to be able to take on a human facade, if they are not human themselves, to blend in with the citizens of NYC. Humans are precarious creatures, easily spooked... the supernatural community has suffered in the past, due to certain people becoming careless with the use of magic. Let's try to avoid another witch hunt, if we can.

Create a character, explore the city, make friends or enemies, thrive or wither. Follow plot lines, or strike out on your own. It's all up to you.

The time line of the books is estimated to have begun in 1999 or 2000, so we will be starting in June of 1999. To avoid continuity errors, and for the sake of being able to write our own story rather than leaning on the already established one, we will be creating our own timeline, as the game progresses. The events of the books will not have occurred- this is a fresh start.

That said, knowing the books backwards and forwards is not a requirement, and will not give you a major advantage in this game. I try to make it a habit, in my games, to be very open to those wishing to join with no previous knowledge. You will learn as you go, and any questions can be directed toward the GM(s) or the other players who are familiar with Jim Butcher's Work. There will be plenty of Dresden Files wiki links left around the threads, to offer players the chance to garner more information on the world around them.

While we will not be following the original story, we will be utilizing elements from the books, such as the Organizations, Courts, Creatures, general mechanics, etc. to keep what we know and love about the Dresden Files (besides Harry and other core characters, of course) alive in the game, to give it the right feel.

DISCLAIMER: This is a free-form game, meaning that there will be no dice rolling or general system that the players have to adhere to. The GM(s) may roll dice behind the scenes, from time to time, to determine the outcome of a certain event, but that will not be something the players have to participate in. Likewise, there will be an overarching premade plot, but the majority of the game will be player led. I, and any other GM(s) that may join in the future, will not lead your character by the nose. If you're looking for a game that is heavily GM centric, this is not the game for you. That being said, I will be writing as some NPC's here and there and will be offering plot hooks, but you will need to be able to write your own story and interact with the other characters on your own for the most part. Do not expect to rely on the GM(s) for everything, we have lives as well and our time is limited, as is the case with most of you.

Just a heads up:
I am not, by any means, an expert on the source material- one of the many reasons we will be moving away from the initial story. There is the possibility that I may mess up here and there, and I am well aware of that. I have done quite a bit of research into the universe and will continue to do so, as the game progresses. So, rest assured that any potential issues will be fixed in due time. Thank you for your understanding.

Wizards welcome, demons tolerated! (Dresdenverse freeform)

Update: We currently have a cap on Scions, werewolves and detective/investigator type characters, and will not be accepting anymore at this time.

GM Requests

We (the GMs) are currently looking for characters who would like to fill the following positions:

1. Wizards and Wardens of the White Council! As the general focus of the Dresdenverse (Harry at least, anyways), I would love to have some Wizards join the game! Senior Council and the Blackstaff are off limits, of course, but other members of the Council are welcome. :)

2. Knights of the Cross are welcome! Two blades are up for grabs. While the Knights in the books are primarily male, we will be accepting female Knights as well! Amoracchius has been claimed, but the other two blades are still up for grabs.

3. Members of the Summer and Winter Courts! We do have a few fae characters, but we could use some more diversity among the cast! Wyldfae are welcome, as well.

4. Humans who are unaware of the supernatural world, or humans who know it quite well. While the supernatural are the general focus of the game, humans are much more common than monsters or practitioners in New York City. We could certainly use some characters who aren't linked into the supernatural community and will be discovering it for the first time in-game, but we are open to accepting humans who are clued into the supernatural world as well.

5. Anything else! We'd love some more diversity among the cast. :D

While we would like for someone to fill these positions, no one is required to do so! Feel free to come up with your own concept. These are simply general positions that we would like filled, to have a more comprehensive and diverse cast. More may be added to this list in time, as the game goes on, if I notice that we are lacking in important character roles. And, of course, if you have any really off the wall ideas, I would recommend discussing them with us in a Request Access thread, before drawing up a concept, so we can green-light it!
