Agent X (Mutants and Masterminds 2e or 3e - PL 12-15)

Here's an attempt to resurrect a past GM request that never got picked up.

Looking for a team of 4-6 'supers' characters (GM's discretion).

Character Concept:

Character Name (Agent X; formerly Agent 0; formerly Martin Rovers)

Basic Concept (Agent X is not 'a' special agent, but rather, he is 'the' special agent.  Agent X is his own government agency who answers only to the Vice-president of the government of your choosing; generally presumed the United States) and is used primarily as a solo agent but from time to time is asked to operate in tandem with some other organization (FBI, CIA, Covert Ops, supers team, etc).  What he lacks in powers (as he has none) he makes up for with skill, savvy, and wits.  With a multitude of abilities and skills he is able to handle just about any situation that may come along, and the ability to improvise when that's not enough.

LATE ENTRY: This character, having no 'powers', will rely heavily on the use of Extra Effort and Hero Points.  With that in mind, a character is given 1 hero point at the start of each game session (using the lucky feat with 7 ranks - assuming PL 15 for example): that's 8 hero points at the start of each game session.  For the purposes of this game, I'm requesting that a game session be deemed a calendar week. So at the beginning of each week (on Sunday, his hero point count resets to 8), but also being able to gain additional hero points normally, in addition to.  Being a GM who is generous in providing additional hero points would be an asset :)

I see this character as a 'Jason Bourne' (without the amnesia) meets James Bond meets Jerod (from the TV series: The Pretender) meets Batman (though without the expense account or the need for a spandex costume) meets Bruce Lee.

Physical Description: With high physical attributes he is very athletic (high str), agile (high dex), and can take more than his share of punches (high con).  He is exceptionally handsome and charismatic. Blond hair, blue eyes, 5'10", 180 lbs. That which can't be seen in his appearance is his considerable intelligence and wisdom.

BACKGROUND: Martin Rovers was recruited by the Vice President of the United States on the advisement of the former Agent X (Marc Slayton), who will have just retired at game start (renamed: Agent RED) but will have trained his replacement (Martin Rovers, the new Agent X).

Upon successful recruitment to become the new 'Agent X', any and all documents, pictures, you name it, that could be traced back to Martin were either destroyed or redacted, and then given the new codename: Agent 0. At a young age, having showed much potential, he had been recruited by the former 'Agent X' and was put on a track that would allow him to walk in his mentor's footsteps.  He was home schooled, and not just in the courses his peers would have been taking in the regular school system, but also in hand to hand combat, psychology, espionage, forensics, and a whole host of subjects most his age didn't even know existed.  And for as much time as he spent training his mind, he spent training his body as well.  Weight training, martial arts, acrobatics, and more.

The former Agent X has been his mentor/trainer.  He has recently retired, but not before confirming with the Vice President, that Martin would be appointed to the position of Agent X once it became vacant.  The Super community has mixed feelings about Agent X.  Some think him a joke given that he has no powers to speak of...others admire his dedication to the people of his nation and the world 'despite' not having any super powers.

He has no secret identity.  He is no longer Martin Rovers.  He is simply 'Agent X'.  The only one who knows who he was in his past life are the Vice President and the former Agent X (who acted as his mentor).  Upon retiring from the job the former 'Agent X' was renamed: RED (stolen from the movie of the same name, standing for Retired, Extremely Deadly).

As for the general populace.  They may be aware of the things he's accomplished, but not that they were accomplished by him...given that he is a covert operative (possibly wearing a bandit cloth over his eyes like zorro or some other as of yet undetermined costume).  Aside from is mentor (Agent Red) and student (the new 'Agent 0), Agent X (formerly Martin Rovers) has no other family, and given that he was home schooled, he has no friends to speak of...it has been quite a solitary life.  Though he would be on friendly terms with the Vice President.

I'm thinking there are 3 stages in the life of an Agent X

1. training-Agent X  (Code Named: Agent 0)
2. Agent X      (Code Named: Agent X)
3. retired-Agent X (Code Named: Agent RED)

During Marc Slayton's 'Training-Agent X' stage, he would have been code named: Agent 0.
While he was Agent 0, his mentor would be Agent X, and Marc Slayton's mentor's mentor would have been code named Agent RED.

Now that Martin Rovers has become the new 'Agent X', his mentor (formerly Marc Slayton) became the next 'Agent RED'; and the new 'Agent X' (Martin Rovers) would need to recruit his own Agent 0 (a student, being trained to become the next Agent X).

I was thinking of having this character take ranks in the Minion feat. His minion would be his 'Agent 0'.  The student he is training to some day replace him.

Martin's mentor (the current Agent RED) could act as Martin's (Agent X) liaison to the Vice President, as well as oversee his student (Agent 0)'s training in his absence.  And Agent RED could also act as his contact within the hierarchy of the government (he will have Connected and Contacts feats).

personally I like the term 'sidekick' better for the role of Agent 0, but the mechanics of the feat only allow rank x 5 power points to build him, whereas 'Minion' provides rank x 15 power points (so, mechanically 'Minion', but 'Sidekick' in title).
