Hello and question

Hi,

New to rpol, not new to RPG or PBP, though I haven't done PBP in 15+ years.

I've "created" my game and posted the first post (house rules).

Question: where does the Introduction show up? I don't see my own that I wrote (unless I go to GM Menu and edit it) and I don't see Intros for other games. What am I missing?

Question: how do I limit posting in my game threads to selected/allowed players only?

Thanks.

Hello and question

Welcome!

If you are on the main site, the game introduction can be located after clicking the hyperlink titled 'game info.'  It's on the upper right.

If you are on the responsive site (it's the one that begins r.rpol) along the right hand side there is a menu titled 'This Game.'  The game introduction is one of the options.

For the last question, you'll see when creating a new thread (by clicking 'post a new topic') that one of the dropdown menus under the main body of text is titled 'to group.'  It is that dropdown menu that allows you to sort your threads out into different groups.

Group zero is the default, and everyone can see that one.  But as soon as you designate any other group ... only the players in your game that you have given access will be able to see those particular threads.

Once you admit players to the game, you can adjust which groups they have access to like so: GM Menu > Edit Groups.

Hope that helps.

Hello and question

when you place your add, there will be a box  at the top of the page, thelink will be  there to go to your game

Your game  description will be in your ad of course.

...........

on the game itself, You have to have a thread  that you can tag as a Notice , and it always stays on the front page

..........

two things to do to have only certain folks see threads you go to edit  groups..and assign a group.

 OR

Just play  some PMs , until you bring  them into the maon RP.

for me? I just have  everyone able to read all threads, but not  all charcters  are in  all threads, so they can only react to the threads they are in.-

Another question

When I first registered, and also when I am logged out, when I got to "Main Menu" (or "Home" in the new view) I can see all the forums at the top level.

Now, suddenly, I can only see the forums I've ever been to. I can't see them all anymore.

Maybe I somehow restricted my own view?

Maybe I haven't done something I was supposed to?

Another question

Not  sure?m   once you visited the forumns , they should show? I 'shut off'  the 'wanted players  thread' once, and  one of the players  told me  what to do.

 Anyone out there can help?

Hello and question

Yes, once I visit a forum, it shows. But now I can't seem to find any forums I haven't visited.

Hello and question

Next to the Header "RPoL Forums You Peruse" is a button "(search for other forums)".

That should find the forums you haven't visited.

Theoretically...but then I have to know what they're named. I'd have to, say, look at the available forums when not logged in, and then search for them one by one and look at them one by one, at which point they will be "forums you peruse."

That's very inconvenient. I'd like to find out what's amiss and fix it.

Hello and question

When I tried it, it showed me a few I don't monitor. Not games, of course, but the utility/community threads the mods have started.

I don't think there are all that many non-game threads.

If you're looking for a game thread, you can search the ads by poster. Otherwise, yes, you may have to know the game's name.

Hello and question

I imagine @tmagann's replies address your issues as well as can be done. There's a pretty small number of threads on here. My home page shows the handful of games I'm active in and the handful of general RPoL threads that I follow (including "Beginners").

If you're looking to explore more games, you need to use the Browse/Search Games function. This is meant to make your life easier, not harder. At present there are almost 6,000 games on the site, so it's easier to use the search engine filters than it is to scroll through the whole list.

Does that cover everything? Not really sure what you're asking at this point.

Hello and question

In reply to 1492 (msg # 10):

Okay, at one point shortly after I logged in (zero posts) I saw a list of many, many games. I popped into one of the first ones on the list and lurked a bit just to see what an active game looked like.

That list seems to be gone.

The lone game I looked at is one of the "games you peruse" so I can see that one immediately.

I never did a search of games, to my knowledge, and if I had, I would not have searched for sci-fi games, as the one I am interesting in starting is a fantasy game.

Yet, the one I grabbed and lurked in is a sci-fi game.

Weird.

Anyway, it's not terribly important.

Hello and question

In that case, I would recommend that you use the search engine and choose "fantasy" as your single criterion, and that should generate a list of 25 active games.

ETA: If that doesn't yield satisfactory results, you can try additional searches using different criteria.
