What is RTJ?

New to this site and DND in general, I been looking through the Wanted Player Thread for a few hours and keep noticing this term.

Is It just the Character Sheet?

What is RTJ?

It is the Request To Join the game.

where you go to apply, and how the GM likes the application, assuming he or she has preferences

when you find a game in an ad.... and  click o the link of the info box  at the top of the ad page, it take you to the game.

at the top , right  is 'request access'...a post box  will appear  and you  state your interest in the game

I have also have had players  who get in touch and  and i have them fill out  my simple CS.

Also, when you're looking at games, most (if not all) of them have a thread labelled something like "RTJ Information".  Those are the guidelines for what the DM/GM/Storyteller/Narrator/whatever are looking for if you want to join the game.  It can be anything from a simple character outline to a full-blown character sheet with a multi-paragraph writing sample.  A general rule of thumb is, if you feel like they are asking you for too much, then don't bother with the game...RTJs are a good first indicator of what the GM is going to be like, and if their RTJ bugs you, odds are really good that other things about how they run their game will also bug you.

But failing to follow the RTJ guidelines as laid out by the GM is generally asking to be summarily dismissed from consideration as a player, because how you follow their RTJ guidelines is their first indicator of what you're like as a player.

what's the  old saying?  'The  dumbest question, is the one that was never asked"

that's what this place is  for, to hlp  players and such get acclimated  to the site. If a Mod  can't answer, there  are  scores of players out there, that will.

What is RTJ?

In reply to CowboyWithHook (msg # 5):

Not at all a dumb question.  I had the good fortune, when I started here, of having been invited by a friend who was already familiar with the site.  I hadn't done much of anything in a forum-based format, so I was TOTALLY out of my depth...kept messaging him questions on MySpace (tells you how long ago I started!) about how to do even the most basic tasks on here...like, I didn't understand how to reply to posts.  Had no idea what the RMail system was like or how to use it.  Couldn't figure out how to find the game he'd started that he wanted me to join, then couldn't figure out how to do the RTJ...

The fact that you figured out how to ask the question here puts you leaps and bounds ahead of where I was when I started.  Very definitely not a dumb question.
