Star Wars

I thoroughly enjoyed the new trilogy.  I don't see what the big deal is.

Star Wars

I can't say that I'd feel bad about it if they didn't change it.  However, given my feelings about how Star Trek got butchered (imo) .... well ....

Star Wars

I had posted a reply to this thread when I first saw it, but I've since done some research and deleted it. I'm pretty sure that this article is blowing some smoke. None of the usual geek circles I checked are discussing this, which would seem like a pretty big deal, and given that the article is a week old, it seems like it might not be the truth.

Can anyone else corroborate it?

I'd love to know that myself, though that wasn't my reason for posting it here.

Re: Star Wars

I would be severely disappointed if they did retcon the trilogy.  There would be a very good chance of screwing things up even more than so many people already believe they did if they tried to  get a do-over.

Re: Star Wars

Personally, I think his theory about how to retcon the trilogy stinks worse than ANYTHING in the trilogy itself.  I think they should stick with their original plan...call the trilogy the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga and start developing the rest of the SW universe.

In reply to phoenix9lives (msg # 8):

Pretty sure you're right.  There's a corner of the Star Wars fandom that's going to hate it, no matter what they do, because it isn't what 'they' (the fans in question) wanted to see.  The fans that actually did like the sequel trilogy (and, believe it or not, there are actually quite a few) will be disappointed because they liked what was already there and it was taken away.  On top of that, Disney hasn't 'erased' ANY Star Wars, they've just relabeled it as legend instead of canon.

I also find it somewhat amusing that people keep going on about how the sequel trilogy 'killed' Star Wars when Clone Wars is possibly bigger than it's ever been and the Mandalorian became a cultural icon in a matter of DAYS.  Star Wars is doing just fine, and with the Skywalker Saga concluded, they're now free to go off in a thousand different directions, if they want to...it would be counterproductive to turn around and go back and rewrite a different ending.  As a viewer, it would totally reduce the impact to me, because that would mean that nothing that happens in the movie has any impact...if they decide enough people don't like it, they'll turn around and write another one...and another, and another.

And then Star Wars truly will be dead.

Re: Star Wars

In reply to facemaker329 (msg # 10):

Honestly, my two biggest issues have to do with things that got changed (and changed in a way that I thought was kind of big).   First off, you've got the...I think it's usually referred to as the "hyperspace ram".   It basically renders Episode 4 and everything between 4 and 3 moot.   Why bother to steal the plans when you can just send a few X-Wings to do the job.  Which brings me to a corollary of that thought: Why build a Death Star when you can use a Star Destroyer to crack a planet.

And the other has to do with the apparent revelations that Rey receives.  Here Luke has to struggle through test after test, and failure after failure...why the new chosen one gets everything dropped in their proverbial lap.

But..that's me.   ^_^

Re: Star Wars

I remember preparing for a Star Wars game and reading everything I could possibly find about Jedi, their history and other things. I remember reading a West End Games (at least I think it was) sourcebook about Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order with a weird motley cast of padawans. I specially remember there being a pair of force witches who were essentially goddesses on their home planet and the plan was to teach them the Jedi ways as a form of rehabilitation or something. I remember thinking: "Why hasn't anyone in Hollywood tapped into this New Jedi Order stuff? Its cool and it's the next logical step." If they retcon any of the recent Star Wars movies and don't immediately do this, then I'm moving to the moon.

I never got super deep into the novels, but the extended (no-longer-canon) universe had this no? Kyle Katarn was part of or something.

Also, I totally thought when Disney acquired the rights to Star Wars, it was going to exploded into a million differents mediums and we'd get a Star Wars GoT, a Star Wars romantic comedy, and a Star Wars Blair Witch Project. I was baffled when they teased episode 7 and showed us all the same stuff we were playing with in episodes 4-6. Holy nostalgia grab. A whole universe for the taking and they just couldn't leave the one plotline, which was essentially resolved, alone.
