New Guy -_-

Greetings.

I'm never sure how to start these off, so I'll begin by saying I'm a veteran roleplayer of 22 years who got his start in Dungeons and Dragons with a friendly neighbor, and a keen interest in Dragon Warrior for NES. Ever since that time, I have been searching for the purest expression of the ideas that rattle around inside my head, and others to share them with.

I am not Stephen King. I'm not winning any awards for best author ever. But I do want to see where the story goes. To that end, I will work with the GM and other players to figure out what goes where, and why. I'm very story-driven, and greatly enjoy open-ended content which spurs the player on to take action and make choices which might affect the plot.

My interests are mostly centered around science fiction and technology, but I have dipped into medieval fantasy and superheroes on occasion. It really just depends on what's available and how involved the GM is. My experience has been that a roleplay is only as good as its leaders.

Apart from that, there isn't a lot I have to say. Not here, anyway. I'm a big fan of RP-attached Discords for the purpose of getting to know other players, and hashing out OOC stuffs. It's more efficient and can avoid cluttering the thread.

So...here I am. I'll wander around for a bit. It's what I do. Hopefully something will snag me and keep me anchored for a bit. ^_^

Welcome!

Suggest reviewing the FAQ link in upper right and skim through the "FAQs for New Users".

Then check out the Wanted - Players thread (link to another game) for GM's announcing openings or use the "Browse / Search the Games" link on the main page if you've got something specific in mind.

Welcome!  It's funny, your story sounds exactly like my childhood.  After I received the D&D red box for my birthday, I introduced my next door neighbor to it.  And we also shared a love of the Dragon Warrior series.  Any chance your neighbor introduced you to MtG when he came home from college one year?

No, my introduction to MtG did not happen for many years after the fact. Funny you should mention it, as my initial response to the game was not...positive. Now that Hex: Card Clash has had its turn in the sun as a PSN free game, and I've seen its many, many similarities to MtG, I find myself more willing to give it a second chance.

The neighbor in question saw me fishing in the river in our back yard and came over to offer some bait alternatives. I was a rank amateur -an outright beginner- so the advice was welcome. While there, she started talking about her weekly game and, being a sucker for adventure games already, I was understandably intrigued.

Thus began my journey into RPGs as regards traditional PnP games. Since that time, I have been collecting books and analyzing their methodologies, studying the settings and content, and trying to build my own. That goal may still be years away, but I still cherish the forum, chatroom, and IM roleplay experience it instigated.

...yes...I was there for the birth of AoL roleplay. MySpace, too. I've seen a lot.

Re: New Guy -_-

Cool.  I was just trying to ascertain if you were in fact my old neighbor, without coming right out and asking for (or offering) personal information. :-D

Definitely not though.  No river in my backyard, I was a city boy by that point.

Right, right.

In any event, I'm certain my story is not unique. What can happen once can happen again, after all.

Re: New Guy -_-

yuou have  coe to the right site..I have been  playing   PBP  for  as long as they have  been around...bounced  from 'Yahoo' sites in the old days that got vuruses.. to the 'best' of that tie  EZ-BOards  that got hacked..

I play one  game on anothe Site,,only becaus e the  GM there  decided  to  go there, instead of  come here..but its a nightmare  site, and not as  easy  to navigate  to post as here.

the  Admins  keep  a tight  ship as  far as  rule breakers, and if you  run a game, its  easy to  se up an adverstisement.

I've been here  for a long  spell..don't see me leaving, while I breathing!

Thank you both. Seems like good news, and no deal-breakers so far. I'll have a look around and familiarize myself with things, then see if I can find something in my area of interest.

Re: New Guy -_-

the 'browse' think on the  first page is good.. you can even  set up " by most posts"  ect ect… once you get a handle  on how  to work it,

also..on the 'players wanted'  games pop up every so often..and  the more active  GMs   bump there  ads  each week,

Welcome!  The Help here is pretty good.  For instance if you are setting up a game, the Help you access from there is about that.  Have fun!
