Description: Inara is tall for a woman, though she does not tower over others. She stands with a quiet command, stealing the attention of everyone in the room without having to say or do anything. Inara epitomizes the sophistication and beauty of the Core, representing higher society and social status on the ship. The dresses she wears always grace her form, elegantly showing her curves and accentuating her allure.

Inara is only 5' 7" with a natural tan that doesn't suffer from her lack of time in the sun. Her beautiful, long hair always looks impeccable no matter the occasion, even when her dark curls are allowed to simply fall down past her shoulders. Inara's figure is always wrapped in vibrant fabrics, whose softness calls to the likely expensive nature of the pieces.

Despite her gorgeous figure and beautiful face, Inara is far more than the physical. Inara can always be counted on for 'intelligent' conversation, and her intuitive nature lends itself to her abilities of counsel and the performing arts. Inara is a nurturing individual, no matter whom she is talking to, whether it be Book, Kaylee or even Mal.

She is a Companion, which is the 26th century equivalent of a courtesan or oiran. Like her Renaissance counterparts, Inara enjoys high social standing. Her presence confers a degree of legitimacy and social acceptance the crew of Serenity would not have without her on board. She and Mal have a strained relationship, with unspoken romantic tension playing a significant part in several episodes, as well as in the movie. Inara arguably represents Mal's heart, and Mal is a noticeably darker character when Inara is absent (as during the first half of "Serenity"). She rents one of the ship's two small shuttles.

Character's History:
Inara was born on Sihnon and became a Companion through the Guild's headquarters which is located on the same planet. She was exceptionally skilled, and could have become the headmistress but left abruptly. She had rented a shuttle aboard Mal's last transport and is hoping to fly with him again.

Beautiful and graceful, and blessed with an exceptional level of compassion, she gives of herself to others, regardless of their station.

Inara is currently teaching at the Companion Training House on Madrassa. Previously, Inara had spent the last several years traveling with the crew of Serenity, a Firefly-class vessel. She still maintains contacts with many of her key clients, though she leaves the training house now only for a select few. It is widely rumored that with several more years' time, she will be the Head Priestess at the Madrassa house.
