Sexual Orientation: heterosexual male (tends to resent the popular assumption that Greek scholars are all "pederasts", but occasionally finds it useful for masking his interest in certain women)

Family: As noted above, from a Byzantine exile family of some means. They have kept their heads above water by dealing in Greek manuscripts and art, teaching Greek, composing Greek epigrams and panegyrics to order etc. as well as relying on annuities purchased with whatever treasure they escaped with originally.  His brother Giorgio (see below) is now largely supporting the family by trading in the Aegean.
Occupation: Free-lance scholar; previously served as tutor in Classical Greek to several young lords and ladies. He has a long-term interest in becoming a secretary to the Venetian government for conducting foreign correspondence.
