Thin almost waspish, Katrina is a small creature.  Barely five foot one, she has a narrow waist, dainty feet, and an expression that could freeze water.  Even before her family's fall she had a serious countenance but now it has become even more stern.

Her auburn hair falls in soft waves around her shoulders usually pulled back away from her face.  Clothing: What used to be fashionable has now become worn.  That is the price of losing the status of true noble in Venice.  The money that the Republic gives to keep the family afloat is hardly enough to be seen in social circles.  Katrina makes due having learned to use a needle to increase her fashion.

The Rici family fell from prominence ten years ago due to Katrina's father's gambling debts and poor choices as a merchant.  He lost his ships in a failed expedition to India and never was able to recover.  The family lives on the government stipend but because of the laws of the Republic they have never been able to rise.

They live in the Santa Croce district now that they have lost their fine estate.  It was the family's solution for needing money to maintain their appearance at court.

Before fall of her father, Katerina was a simpering little brat.  She was a pampered little poodle, spoiled by her mother and coddled by her father.  The fall of her house brought about a shocking reality.  People didn't like her.

When the shock disappeared, Katrina got sad, and then she got angry.  The realization of how much money she'd spent on the sycophants who pretended to be he friend, to like her, to compliment her- infuriated her.  Some of her peers have already felt the depth of her rage.  Others are still on the list.

Katerina's personality has turned.  She is a false front with a viper underneath.  She will say to your face how much she likes you, and then turn around and kick you down the stairs- if she's sure you won't remember it was her.  She is cunning and mean.  That cold part of her helps feel the wounded girl underneath.  At the end of the day there might be tears, but she'd rather drink a bilge than let anyone know.

Background/History:
As a child the Rici family was an extremely wealthy merchant family with ties to the orient.  She and her mother dressed in the finest gowns.  Even at the age of nine there were rumors that her hand would go quickly and many families were hinting that a merger of their fortunes would be possible.

That all changed when her father lost his fleet.  The debt collectors came.  The banks came.  The villa was lost.  The gowns disappeared, and Rina found herself suddenly ostracized from all that she had once known.  Worse yet, their family is forced to hang on to the nobility like a piece of frayed lace.

Rina has not smiled since her father was summarily dismissed from the upper echelon of the noble court. While she would love to say it was someone else's fault- in truth it was her fathers.  Her father and his gambling, his drinking, his womanizing.  And through it all the church piously continued forward.  His noble friends encouraged his vices until at last he toppled.  Katrina was aware of the friends who turned their backs when they fell into the Barnabotti.  She knows exactly which of those leaders left her and her family to rot- voting to give them a stipend.  She hasn't forgiven them.  In fact, she plans to destroy them all.
