Rellys Calrae

Character Name: Rellys "Gilt" Calrae
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Race: Half-Elf
Homeland: Waterdeep, Faerûn

Physical Description and Personality:
Appearance:
Rellys' human heritage mostly presents itself in her tan skin and the understated tips of her pointy ears. She can hide the latter in her waist-long, brown, wavy hair, but usually chooses not to, instead gathering it all in one or several long braids. Especially in her later years, she prefers practical hairstyles to those that make her stand out. She's slightly taller than average and slim, not without her scars but none big enough to stand out. One might almost forget her elven blood completely, if not for the fine features of her face and the striking golden eyes that earned her the street name of Gilt. She tends to wear practical browns and undyed cotton with striking reds to offset when performing. Her shirts are loose, her cloaks flowing, and her bottoms skin-tight but flexible.

Personality:
First impressions of Rellys are usually those of the charming performer - easy smiles, infectious laughter, gifted tongue. At least, it used to be. When everything went wrong she lost both her past and future, and now she struggles to define what was an act, what was her own desires, and how to present herself as a whole, defaulting to the easy-going and seductive persona she's used to when in a pinch. She has set out to prove to herself that she can be a good person, the kind her brother would be proud of, but the truth is she doesn't really give a shit about the struggles of strangers. She is a morally gray person who believes most deeds can be excused if the need is great enough.

At the same time, she highly respects her brother for keeping their group as much out of the muck as possible. Unless she considers you a friend or family, she's self-centered and completely callous in her lack of empathy. She does a very good job of pretending that isn't the case and her recent state of turmoil has set her on a path of learning and growth, but she still has a long way to go. Family is her only exception and she will go to hell and back for any of the street urchins she grew up with, her ex-lover the only exception.

Background:
Rellys is a half-elven woman who grew up on the streets of Waterdeep under the name of Gilt. She was very close to the group of street rats she ran with, especially another half-elf called Flint, the only member she considered her sworn family. All throughout their lives, Flint was her beacon, keeping their group mostly out of trouble and advocating goodness. One day in their early teens, a high-ranked member of The Harpers took an interest in them. Eroan Calrae didn't train them directly for years, his Harper duties keeping him tied up, but whenever he was able and in the area, he would help them grow their magic and skills. While Flint greatly respected Eroan and saw promise in a future under his tutelage, Gilt saw his attention as half-hearted. Regardless, he ended up being somewhat of a father figure for both of them, even though the level of affection between the three varied. He was the one to grant them new names, going as far as sharing the surname of one of his identities.

Many years continued that way and Rellys eventually got a lover in their group, a human man called Knuckles who joined them later on as opposed to most others, whom she had been with since their earliest memories. Flint warned her against trusting him completely, but she shrugged them off. Knuckles ended up tangled with Xanathar's thieves' guild and tasked with killing either Flint or Gilt to prove himself worthy of being an official member. He betrayed them both, ambushing them on a walk home with Eroan one night, but the latter was killed instead as he stepped in to protect them. Overwhelmed and wrought with guilt, the anger in her brother's eyes as he held their dead mentor sent Rellys fleeing alone into the dark. She hasn't seen him since.

She's now out to try to prove to herself she can be the kind of person her brother is, to redeem herself through her actions, but at the same time, she's a coward who never tracked down either her brother or her lover to make amends directly. Not wishing to risk running into them, she worked hard to track down a branch of the Harpers elsewhere, eventually settling in Baldur's Gate.
