Image not posting?

Hi all!

I’m trying to set up for a game I plan on running, and it seems that the img tag isn’t working for me.

<img src=“http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Arknight/Star%20Trek/excalibur%20-%20orbit_zps6hyn4t9c.jpeg” align=“right”>
 U.S.S. Excalibur (NCC-26517)
Ambassador-Class Cruiser (Refit)
Mission Profile: Multi-Role Explorer

The link for the image is my personal Photobucket album. I also tried directly from a link to the file on my Dropbox. No luck in either case.

Any suggestions?

I am not sure about the align tag for images, but if it doesn't work without it, then I believe that the issue is that the file has the *.jpeg naming format instead of *.jpg.

Can you try saving the image in a *.jpg format and seeing if that works?

Thanks, I’ll try the jpg version when I get home after a bit.

Changing it to JPG worked, but unfortunately photobucket won't display. :(

The same JPG though, when used in a dropbox link won't.

<img src=“https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xws...20-%20orbit.jpg?dl=0” align=“right”>

I tried with and without the ?dl=0 bit too.

I believe photobucket stopped allowing third party hosting unless you have a paid account, didn't it?

I've also heard that Dropbox is removing some of its access to hotlinking to 3rd party sites, so that may be an issue.

You might try Imgur.

The "/a/" in imgur links is to the album that contains the image or images.

You'd want to do

<img src="https://i.imgur.com/dCDYK2P.jpg">

which is a direct link to the image itself.

For this purpose, are the supported image formats still .jpg, .gif, and .png?

Thank you very much!

I haven’t used imgur before, so still learning. :) now I just need to go in and resize the image to fit my post. :)

Re: Image not posting?

Adding this since dropbox was mentioned, with an issue I recently ran into, and had to poke a friend to figure out.

Dropbox, at some point in time, changed how they handle dropbox links to pictures in public folders.

Your dropbox url will end in ?dl=0.  You need to change the "dl=0" part to "raw=1", since the standard link actually goes to a web page that displays the picture. With the change, the link now goes directly to the picture (so you can use the img tag in your game post to display it again).

I guess the OP probably found a solution with other suggestions, so I guess this is mostly for people who come here with this issue, and check this thread since the topic matches.

Re: Image not posting?

First up, images won't show in forums - you can only post images in games you GM.

Secondly ... I don't know much about individual image hosting linking requirements, but when I paste that link into my browser address bar to test its validity, I'm prompted me to login - I think you might have to make the image or maybe the folder public ?  :>
