Accessing RPoL via IP?

So, I've got a strange question I'd like to pose here.  In the interest of something more entertaining to do at work when I'm not otherwise busy, I tried to login from my work computer, but their content blocking recognized the URL and stopped that.

A few days later (aka this morning), I thought to try accessing via the site's IP address instead.  The content blocking didn't catch it, so it might work... but the IP I tried just says it's a RPoL hosted site and never went anywhere else.

So my question is, is there a way to actually log in from IP, or am I doomed to boring mediocrity while being a good little wage-slave?  Asking because I can't find any specific answer, though truth be told, that could be because I failed my Spot check...

(Sidenote, if this looks like a duplicate thread from another forum, I realized after posting that I'd done so in the wrong forum and deleted that one to create this one.)

My speculation is that you should probably be a good little wage slave and let the filter work, but that has no bearings on whether you can log in from the IP and bypass it. Personally, I'm rooting for you being able to stick it to The Man.

Re: Accessing RPoL via IP?

Thanks.  For what it's worth, this is about something to do when my work's done, like today when a full half of my shift was staring at the screen wishing someone would come up with something for me to do, and less for when I've got work that needs to be done.  I've no immediate objections to being a good little wage-slave when there's a need for it.  XD

Re: Accessing RPoL via IP?

I bypassed the filter at my old, old job by going through a gateway site. But as thats 10+ years ago it might be that modern filter software recognizes where the gateway site is linking you to.

The site opened the site inside itself without passing the metadata that had all the tags it filtered on. Worked like a charm to have my collegues play online flash games in the 3 hours our experiments where incubating.

Re: Accessing RPoL via IP?

It's likely they are using name based virtual hosting to host several websites on a single IP (i.e. rpol.net and wiki.rpol.net). This means that accessing by IP will probably just route you to a default page like the one you're seeing. For the webserver to serve up the content you want you probably need to use the domain name.

That's not to say it's impossible to access by IP even in that situation, but they would need to configure the webserver to allow it and provide you the correct URL.

Re: Accessing RPoL via IP?

You could try http://rpol.hyphenit.com.au/

I would recommend going to your boss and shooting the breeze with them, then after a few minutes ask what else you can do to help, since you finished your work early.  If they don't have anything, then tell them that you'll find something and go look busy for the rest of the day.  If it happens more, go ask if you can shadow someone else or work on cross training or something, so that you'll have something to work on during slack periods like that.

Actually, the hypenit.com.au address is no longer valid.
