I've been using RPOL for several years, when all of a sudden a couple of months ago, I suddenly couldn't see any male pics from the portrait gallery. They come up either blank or occasionally with a red holding box with "?". I can still see female and neuter pics just fine. Problem persistent when I try to access from other IP addresses and use different internet browsers as well.

I've seen some vague answers about it being the fault of "servers" in similar circumstances, but nothing definitive. Is there anything that can be done? I am located in Moscow, Russia if that is pertinent.

From what I know cariot, it happens because the costs of having the pictures here expired (I'm probably wrong) and the admins just need to renew them. They'll be back up in a day or two.

That happened ONCE.  :P

The male portrait servers are up and running.  I'm not experiencing any issues and can see them fine.

Usually the answer is that it is the fault of the connection between your computer and the portrait server.  Since that connection goes through a long chain of other servers, if any one of them goes down, then you lose the connection.

Unfortunately all anybody can do is wait for the problem link to be fixed.

If this is from a couple of months ago, I suspect that your computer is still accessing portraits from your cache rather than refreshing them from the source.  Clearing cookies, clearing history, and then doing a forced refresh might help.

Unfortunately, I'm terrible about being able to tell people how to do things like this -- but if you don't know how to do it on your own, there are others who can usually provide directions.

Unfortunately I don't think the source of the problem is my computer still accessing cache memory. The problem persists on different computers (desktop, laptop, pad, mobile) and at different IP addresses. Plus on my desktop I have upgraded to Windows 10 in the time since this started - and there was no change, I still couldn't see male pics.

I doublechecked and cleared cookies & history again on desktop to no new result.

That's why I wondered if location (in Russia) might result in linkage to wrong server in chain or something like bigbadron suggested. Why the problem just started some two months ago and has persisted since then, I don't have the foggiest.

Anyway - if there isn't anything anyone can do - at least you are now aware the problem exists for some, I'm sure I can't be the only one thus affected.
