Size and secret messages

This has been a problem of mine for awhile now, thought I would address it.

I'm an older fellow, and my vision isn't what it should be, so I usually RPoL with the screen plus-sized, so to speak.

The problem is, when I go to post a secret message, and the side box pops up with my options, if I do so at my comfortable enlargement, the box with the options (i.e. the players, the GM, etc) has slid up to where I can reach it.

I've been shrinking my screen every time I need to do this, then magnify it again when I'm done.

Is there anything else I can do? Should I move this request to RPoL Development to see if a code fix might be considered, if possible?

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

Re: Size and secret messages

Have you tried doing this after hitting the compose button?  It seemed to help you with the the other size problem you were having.  Does it put the list in a position you can access?

Re: Size and secret messages

It would probably help if you told people how you're "plus sizing" your rpol experience.  Are you using the "zoom" feature of your browser, if so what browser and version are you using?

Are you using an accessibility option of your computer's operating system?  If so what OS and version?

With that information someone might be able to replicate the issue and give some advice.

In any case you could simply switch to manually coding in your tags and avoid the drop down box altogether.

Re: Size and secret messages

I just tried it now after hitting the compose button, and it still seems to be an issue. I feel like it helped a little, but not enough to be sure it's not just wishful thinking.

I'm enlarging the screen by holding control and pushing either the plus or minus sign. I'm using Firefox, 37.0.2.

Manual coding seems like a sound suggestion, but it also seems like a lot of work, a lot more then just resizing. I was hoping for something to make it easier rather than harder.

Does this happen for anyone else I wonder? It might just be the way it works...

Re: Size and secret messages

Have you tried resizing the font through your Preferences/Content tab?

Re: Size and secret messages

I see several places with 'preference' in it's title, but none that offers a content option. Are you saying this is an RPoL function, or a Firefox function?

On a tangent, what does it mean if I turn Display Fixed Header on?

Re: Size and secret messages

It's a Firefox preference.  Go to Firefox's preferences and open it up.  One of the tabs at the top of the mini window should be content.  Click on that and you can change the font and it's size.

Re: Size and secret messages

I don't have Firefox installed on this machine at the moment, so I can't try to replicate unfortunately.  However it is certainly a behavior of Firefox.  I use Chrome, and even at max zoom, the scroll down list always opens "on screen" as long as I've scrolled my browser window far enough to the right to make it visible.

The "Header" is the bit with your username/character name and the various menu options at the top of RPoL.  If you have "Disable fixed header" set to "ON" then it will stay at the top of the web page when you scroll your window down to view other content.  If you set "Disable fixed header" to "OFF" then it will remain at the top of your screen all the time, even when you scroll down the page to view other posts/messages.

Re: Size and secret messages

Ok, I played around with it.  24 and 48 pt weren't too bad to work with, and I could scroll to the side to get to the menu to bring up secret and private message recipient lists.  Anything bigger than 48 made the "quote" and "reply" and all the other menu bar-type options to do wonky things, but they were still accessible.

I guess it depends on just how bad your eyes are and what kind of layout distortions you're willing to tolerate.

Re: Size and secret messages

Okay, couldn't find 'preferences', but I think I found the place that does what you suggested: it was in tools, options, content, and there is a place to play with the default font size. I jumped it to 18 point, and the problem seems to have gone away.

Thank you so much for your help!

Re: Size and secret messages

Gah, I was on a Mac, too. Sorry.

But glad it still worked out for you.
