Formatting Help (Tables)

So I was transposing some homebrew tables into a game, and I had just resigned myself to doing it the hard way i.e. in ASCII. I previewed the post and much to my delight, parts of it had been formatted into actual tables. There is apparently some function that allows RPoL to understand what I'm asking of it with a legion of underscores and these (|) things, whatever they're called. Unfortunately, I'm running into some parsing issues, and generally having a confusing time since I don't get exactly what it is the word processor is looking for, or how exactly to tell it what I want.

I have checked the FAQs, and they seem vague on the subject. Sorry if it turns out I'm being obtuse and overlooking something that's staring me in the face, but Im pretty confident I checked thoroughly. If anyone can point me in the direction of some instructions or a tutorial or a cheatsheet for building tables here, I'd really appreciate it. I have a TON of them to do.

P.S. I am building the tables in <pre>, for the record if it matters.

Re: Formatting Help (Tables)

I think wrapping everything in /tt code will disable easy tables.

Actually no I realize that's the opposite of what you want

! is a Header cell
!! is a header row
using some identifying mark before numbers in a cell (*^#, etc) will stop the cell from being that many units wide.

Re: Formatting Help (Tables)

This section of the FAQs contains some information on the two types of tables that are available on the site: /help/?t=faqs&page=rubbcode

There is also a thread in RPoL Development about Easy Tables - link to a message in another game.

In reply to steelsmiter (msg # 2):

Thanks, steelsmiter. Actually, its good to know both. I was pleased 'easytables' existed and seemed to know what I was up to, but it was also doing goofy things to my ASCII tables in places. If getting more familiar with it turns out to be less easy than advertised, and a project for another day (these are char creation tables I've got people waiting on, so haste is essential) I will be well-pleased to know how to tell it to quit parsing. Much appreciated.

Re: Formatting Help (Tables)

I love the easy tables

Although I am a huge fan of HTML tables - they are usually difficult for players to format when they are adjusting things like character sheets.
