Combining Threads

Is there a way to combine old threads into one?  My game is staring to have a few too many, but I want to keep the old ones for reference.

Re: Combining Threads

Not without copying each individual post by hand. :-(

Re: Combining Threads

Ick.  That's what I thought it would be.

Would be nice if there could be some sort of "Group Archive" option, though I can see how that might be more problematic that it would solve.  One person would want posts combined by Time/Date and another would want them combined by original thread.

Re: Combining Threads

You could set your archived threads to a different group, making it easier to filter for them.

That might help.

Re: Combining Threads

I've done it in two ways.  First, use the download thread option ("D/L" at the upper right when you are in the thread) to open up a window that has the entire thread ("Thread A") in it.  Then highlight and copy whatever portion of Thread A I would like to insert into Thread B; then go over to Thread B and find the right point and "edit" the appropriate post for the transition and paste it in at that point.  This happens a lot when one PC splits off on his/her own for a while, and then joins back up into the main thread, and I want to import the shorter solo thread into the main one.  Usually, I end up deleting the shorter solo thread to reduce clutter.

I've also used the same method combine really old threads, print to .pdf, save to Dropbox (with links to each file, numbered to put the events in chronological order), and then deleted all the archived threads.

It's easier to use the D/L option than to copy each individual post.

Re: Combining Threads

Yes, but you lose formatting if you use the D/L option.  The only way to reserve all of that with the character information for the posts is to copy them over one at a time.

I have also found that when I do print to .pdf I lose whole sections of the file because it gets cropped on one side.  I haven't been able to figure out how to save that yet.

Re: Combining Threads

The formatting is lost if using the D/L option to copy over to another thread.  (I'm generally copying over very short sections, and can re-add the formatting more easily than copying over post-by-post).

But if I use the D/L option to copy over to Word, the formatting is NOT lost, and I can then print to .pdf (this also addresses the problem you mention about having section cut off on the side if printing directly from the D/L screen).
