opening up editing privileges?

Is there any way to give players privileges to edit someone else's post without elevating them completely to GM status?  It could either be per player or per post.

If it helps to clarify, I have a thread in one of my games where one of the players has been posting everyone's actions each season, and planned actions for the near future.  Some other players have been talking about setting it up so that they could edit the first player's posts to add in their own stuff, so he doesn't have to keep track of it all (or me as the GM, for that matter).  Is there a way to set this up with the current system?

In reply to psychojosh13 (msg # 1):

Look under Help > Games > Game Access Levels.

You are likely looking for "Editor" status.

Yes, that looks exactly like what I'm looking for.  Thank you!

Re: opening up editing privileges?

An option might be to utilize the game wiki to hold your cooperative retellng of the history.  The primary disadvantage being it reveals the posters RPOL name, not just their character name.  But doing that could enable several storytellers to work cooperatively without upping any of their permissions in the game proper.

Re: opening up editing privileges?

I hadn't noticed 'editor' before. The description could be a little more descriptive. Am I right to think that making someone an editor will allow them to edit everyone else's pre-existing posts (and can't be restricted so they can edit posts of player A but not player B) but won't allow them to post on someone else's behalf?

I'd like to see a 'puppeteer' access, that would allow players to post for certain characters (say in a player's absence) without necessarily being able to see all their character sheet secrets - a bit like the GM's 'Other Character' posting option, (which I'd like to see allowing the use of portraits if they've been created for the character).

Yes, you could make them GMs, but they'd have too much power then.

I wouldn't. There's basically one person on RPoL and another IRL that I'd even consider trustworthy enough to do that on behalf of someone else. I'd never require any of my players to accept such trust over their own characters.

Re: opening up editing privileges?

I've been an Editor and used it once in one of my games and I don't see much use for it.

In my personal view, if I trust someone enough to give them editing power, I trust them enough to be a full GM.  If I can't trust that when I say "don't peek at character sheets" or "don't read anything in my GM Only threads", then I can't trust that they'll follow the other rules I set, like sticking to the plot and not abusing the editing privileges.

Re: opening up editing privileges?

Naturally a GM wouldn't allow one player to post on behalf of another without the absentee's permission, but the facility would be additionally useful in 'farming out' NPCs to other players.

I ran a game recently in which I had a number of redshirts in the group and wanted any of my players to be able to post for any of the redshirts to keep the game flowing. I managed a workaround, but a 'post as' puppeteer mode would be useful.

The current GM facility shows a simplified personal box to the left of the post which currently doesn't even show a portrait. I'm picturing something very similar, that would be an obvious puppet post, having none of the personal data, but I'd like the facility to include a portrait if one has been created.

I could definitely see Editors having the right to type any character name into the blank box on the right, and make NPC posts, but I'd still want them to know that it isn't ok to do that for players. So that said, I think it would be better to just make that part of the editor (if it isn't already. I don't use the Editor).
