Finding character posts in game

I'm trying to find out if there is a method to locate old charater posts in game.  Kinda like using the find function to locate words on a website.

For example, character 'A' makes a post on November 3, 2014 in a thread that eventually isn't used very often in the RP.  After a few monthes off RP, the player of that character returns to the RP and needs to reorient themselves with character 'A's personality.

Re: Finding character posts in game

If you have fewer than 1000 posts... you can have it load the whole thread as a page by selecting the thread and then selecting the All pages link.  Then you can normally use whatever your browsers find function is to search for the character's name.

Re: Finding character posts in game

I think we've had this question about doing it game-wide before and found that it is not possible.  It's a feature I'd love to see, but I think it is currently limited to just being able to search by thread.

In reply to Heath (msg # 3):

Ironically, I couldn't find it in the threads because there wasn't a thread search function. :P  Don't know much about programming, but wonder how much work it would be to setup this function.

Re: Finding character posts in game

This has been asked for before, and is not currently feasible, without a major reorganisation of the site.  So the answer to your question would be, "too much".

It may be possible in future, but not as things stand at this time.

Re: Finding character posts in game

Your browser doesn't have a Find function under Edit, Sethg12345?  That's what I use when finding something in a thread.

Re: Finding character posts in game

Searching by thread means hitting to display "all" posts in a thread and then using your browser "find" function.  It is not a function of the game itself.

Re: Finding character posts in game

With public threads you can use a custom google search.

Type without quotes (and note that there's no space after the colon)

"site:www.rpol.net NameOfChar & player" to show posts by characters of a given name. There are possibly a few extraneous results but largely it will show posts by that character, or sometimes the post immediately below a post by that character.

You can probably get more fancy by using dates and topics.
