IC Thread Auto-refresh

Is there a way currently or any chance that it could be added at some point...

Where the DM or player could designate a certain thread that he wants to auto refresh?  That would be nice when the post rate is escalated so you don't have to hit refresh yourself.

That would be nice and help keep a response from being missed until the player backs out and sees that the thread counter is Red again signifying that there is something in the thread that has not been read yet.

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

There is a page refresh rate in the options menu. under personal preferences. That is the only one I know of.

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

Nope -- the thread is part of a web page, and either the whole web page refreshes, or none of it does.

You may wish to check out your Jump list (click the "Jump" amid the links at the upper right), and at the bottom, untick "Close on Select" then tick "Refresh" and choose a timing you like.

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

Makes me wonder the coding on FB's refresh for the news/messages icons when they update.

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

Right, but it's a whole other website with a whole other purpose, a whole other architecture, and a whole lot more money to spend on bandwidth and hardware.

(OK, a whole lot more users, too.)

But really, RPoL is intended to be play-by-post roleplay, not a constant live-stream of materials reaching out to alert you as soon as anyone posts everything ever.

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

I hope it's helpful.

You know how this usually works tho?  Is I explain why something's done one way, then jase comes along and says, "yeah, but we could change it!" and then does.   Maybe you'll be lucky after all ;-)

Re: IC Thread Auto-refresh

Well, depending on your browser there may be an "auto-refresh" add-on.

I wouldn't expect it as a feature from this site though. Auto-refreshing is kind of a spammer move, flooding your history with the same page so you can't click 'back' (Internet Explorer is extremely susceptible to it).

Not that it would be impossible to do, though I can't say I would want such a feature on by default ... And it would probably need to pause itself when you are composing a message, at least for a given window.

EDIT:

All that said, there *is* an RSS feed that will alert you to updates. I am not familiar with it, but you can check it out in the FAQs.
