Re: New Post Indicator

Oh, I thought it was normal. Happens on several computers, with several games.
To make it even weirder, soemtimes posts are listed as new on my moms computer, and not on mine? Even when I have not checked the thread on both computers.

Re: New Post Indicator

If you are not careful about logging out when you switch computers, when you return to the computer you didn't log out of things will be pretty messy as far as NMIs are concerned.

If you want the tracking to be accurate, you should log out on one computer before logging into RPoL on another.

Re: New Post Indicator

Or hit "relog" when you get to a computer you've used before (but it isn't the last one you used).

Re: New Post Indicator

I do forget to log off from the computer. Especially since it is only my computer and my mother's that I log in from. What exactly does relog do anyway?

Re: New Post Indicator

That sounds very useful.
Now the next question is how to get games I unsticky to quit forcing themselves on my sticky list.

If I recall correctly, you have to either quit them and be removed by a GM,or people have to quit posting in them (such as by the GM marking them for deletion)

Fair enough, it was so long since I saw the GM I doubt I have been removed yet...

Re: New Post Indicator

Any word on the original problem I posted?

After all the software stuff I did, I was still getting the original issue of having the new message indicator tell me I had new messages even in a game I applied to but wasn't yet added to.

Send a private message to the GM, asking to be removed from the game.  If a week passes, and they haven't removed you, then rMail the mods (including a link to your removal request) and we'll take care of it.

Re: New Post Indicator

I often find that I get new message indicators on my ipad, even after I have just visited that game on my ipad.

I would love to know why but it really isnt a life saver!

Re: New Post Indicator

I asked to be removed from a game that the gm stopped posting. Once the gm deleted the game, it popped up in my deleted games section. Is that normal?

Re: New Post Indicator

Merevel, it is if the GM didn't remove the players before deleting the game.

Re: New Post Indicator

In reply to Chernobyl (msg # 18):

I'd initially suspect that you're not really getting a NMI, but that your browser has cached the NMI against the thread, even though RPoL specifically instructs browsers not to do that.

It's sometimes the case that mobile devices, figuring their owners want to cut down as much as possible on bandwidth usage, cache things they probably shouldn't and deliver "stale" content.  (And some have discovered that their ISP caches things instead of fetching updates each time they load a page.)

If possible, check your browser's settings to ensure it looks for differences in a page every time you get that page, and also (and I don't know if it's possible on iPad), next time this happens, try a "deep refresh" of the page and see if the NMI is still there.  (On desktops this is usually done with shift + F5, or shift + refresh/reload.)

In reply to Evil Empryss (msg # 20):

Can you send me an rMail with the game you're having issues with?  I'll see if I can see anything strange.

Re: New Post Indicator

Cruinne, I'm now a player in the game so I'm not getting that problem anymore.

I would be happy to test things for you if you have a different game for me to submit an RTJ to and see if I get the new post indicator again before I'm added... or if someone here wants to toss an RTJ into one of my games to see if they get the same issue I'll do what I can to test it.

Re: New Post Indicator

Point me to one of your choice, we are just checking if an rtj will cause you to get updates on invisible threads right?

Re: New Post Indicator

I apologize if someone already told me that this was going to be fixed, but I just wanted to let someone know that it's still happening. Another game I don't belong to but is on my sticky list is lighting up with NMIs.

Hey-lo, I'm getting this happening again.  I've got a game on my sticky that I have not yet even sent an RTJ to, but it's going red even though I can't see the group that the new post is in.
