Looking to see a real cursive font

Hi,

Having been on Rpol a number of years I have gotten used to seeing the Comic Sans font in my Firefox browser as the 'cursive' font and really thought no more of it.

However, I just got an Ipad, and as I was browsing my games using it I saw a different font for all the cursive entries, one that actually looked... cursive.

How can I bring that experience to my firefox browser?

Do I need to add fonts? Remove them? Are there settings to change?

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

There are settings in your browser that you can use to customize your fonts.  If you look in the tabs that have the normal internet settings, you should be able to find pretty easily.  I haven't used Firefox in ages, but it only took a couple of clicks to find the place to do it in Chrome.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but if you can't find, I'm sure someone will chime in. :)

In Firefox, you can find font options in Tools > Options > Content.

I can't see an option for Cursive, in which case it might be down to your operating system.

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

It is odd that comic sans would come up as cursive, as it is far from it, in nature...

Firstly - is your Firefox updated to the current version? If not, do so :)

Secondly - http://support.mozilla.org/en-...-colors-websites-use

Thirdly - I would switch off any 'forced' fonts in Firefox, unless you are experiencing serious difficulty reading websites.

:)

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

Comic sans is mine too, and I'm using chrome. Chrome does not have a specific "cursive" font style, only Normal, Sans-Serif, Serif, and Fixed-Width. Must be operating system? Windows Vista here...

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

The cursive font selection used "comic sans ms" or "cursive" as the options.  The iPad musn't have the former so is using the catch-all, which is whatever it deems is an appropriate cursive font.

I think that's how it goes.

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

Of course, at the expense of load times, a real cursive font could be added using Google font API.  E.g., http://www.google.com/webfonts and tick the box for "handwriting"

Though I do understand the instinct not to depend on such thing.  If jase is interested tho, there are ways for RPoL to host and serve the files.

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

Hosting it would be the way to go.  It's pretty easy to do and I did so when testing using the font from http://opendyslexic.org (as a user selectable site-wide font).

The problem here would be arguing which script font to use.  Fonts.com have some nice ones as well.

Re: Looking to see a real cursive font

Sorry to necro this thread but would it be possible to tweak the forum settings so that 'cursive' (and other, related font types) are a user setting?  Part of the Control Panel, maybe, or the colour scheme settings, that gives you a set of dropdown boxes for each type (default, Serif, Monotype, Cursive).  The dropdown boxes would, in this suggestion, link to the user's system fonts, allowing them to select whatever font was on their system that they fancied, and would default to a set of generic fonts (perhaps hosted by RPoL) if it can't find those fonts.

That way the user would get a generic experience but have the option of customising it - but the onus would be on the user to find and use the fonts they specifically want.  That both grants the user flexibility and also cuts out any argument as to what fonts to use.  'Use these ones - or whatever else you can find and install on your system.'

I just want to say, as someone who can't get Cursive to work properly on my android systems, even with having more than one 'comic' style font on my system, that would be amazing. I'd use the one Oblivion uses. All I remember is that it starts with a V. EDIT: Viner Hand. I'd use that font for Cursive in a heartbeat :D
