Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Have you been copy/pasting from another application into RPoL?

That can cause it, particularly if you are using tabs in the original, since web documents cannot display tabs.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

No, I was typing up the post in thread. No cut and paste.. simply typing up things.

I don't typically hit tab.. BUT I might have fumbled finger something. Thanks for the response.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

In the form, tab should actually move you out of the form to the Preview button.

Perhaps characters non-standard to English?  Such as é or ö?

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Nothing I could see. I would type up a two or three paragraph post and get the error.. cutting and pasting it till I get to a sentence that would trigger the error woudl show me nothing.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Very good possibility that it's inserting things you cannot see that the form doesn't like.

This is a table of "low ascii characters".  I don't know which ones jase has marked as bad for us, but I suspect it's those below #32.  Perhaps this can help?  Hard to tell!  http://www.siber-sonic.com/mac...tstuff/lowASCII.html

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Ahh, didn't see this post in my first read over. I'll look at the characters. I have run into this problem recently and am at a loss. I'll try the link to, hopefully get out from under the problem.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Something interesting...

I copied my text and entered in a OpenOffice.org Writer (a word processing program) and I noticed a bunch of odd "#" characters interspersed in the text. I just took those out and the text I was trying to post now goes through! I hope that helps.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Do you know how they got in the text in the first place?  Like KainTheSeeker, is it potentially a problem with a new keyboard or some such?

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

In reply to cruinne (msg # 11):

Couldn't really tell you. I have no good idea of where those hashtags came from. It could have been my multi-langauge laptop keyboard with an unseen key command I didn't notice or it could have cropped up from copy/paste actions from PDF files (easier to copy/paste a single word from one window into next for me rather than type out a new or game-specific word). Those are the only guesses I have, really.

I only know the treatment for the problem; but, not the preventative measure, sorry.

Re: Illegal low ascii character error

Copy/pasting from PDF can definitely do it -- there are a lot of invisible characters buried in those for formatting and the like.
