Cool, no problem! Feel free to edit as you see fit, I'll make sure not to take any creative liberties.

No post from Valeria, but the player has checked in recently, so let's hope she's still with us.

I'll update a bit.

Looks like we lost Valeria, too. I'll update tomorrow. I'll give Valeria another week before giving up on the character.

Why would my blast necessarily be non-lethal?  I bet I could blast through someone with a self generated blast as easily as with a machine gun.

Mostly because the rules say so, and they are simplified. The supposition is that unarmed folks pull their natural attacks to leave the opponent with 1 hit because no one dies in the comics.

But that  is, as I said, an assumption. It's the default option. If you want to kill, let me know.

How do edges work?
What do we roll to get initiative?

An Edge is the ability to reroll the lowest die. Even the M die (and a 1 is highest on that one).

Initiative is a Vigilance check. You make a standard roll (d616+Vigilance).

Pretty much as described in the rule book. Which part don't you understand?

Ah, I see. It costs 15 focus. You bought it with Surprising Power, but that doesn't let you use it at Rank 1. It's unusable until Rank 3.

Sorry, that's a hard rule, with no exceptions I can find in the book.

Sorry, folks, I screwed up the initiative rules a bit. One of you gets a bonus round due to a Fantastic success. The player told me, but I misunderstood.

I'll post once I have that.

Ok, the first half of round 1 is posted. We will do Reactions Monday when everyone is back.

Anything you've got to mitigate damage you've taken, or prevent them form attacking would be handy. not much this round, and interpose isn't a valid choice, because they're all attacking the only one that can survive Interposing.

Oops, made an error on damage from Sponge's attack. It did double damage twice, but I only doubled once. One bug is dead, Sharpie takes half as much damage as he had, previous, and the post is updated.

Sorry, folks, I'm new to the rules, too, and still learning them.

I'm still waiting to hear from one of you for the reaction phase, but if you have no reaction, you might as well send in your round 2 actions.

Let's try and pick up the speed with combat. We have a new player in the wings waiting.

Hello everyone! Looking forward to release from medical to join you all. Something about muscles needing to keep up with bones and such… oh and trouble getting an IV in until someone brought in a drill.

In reply to Amal 'Kali' Ayad (msg # 75):

Oh, you're about 3 ranks short of needing a drill. A large bore metal needle should do the trick still.

Don't get cocky. This game makes tough skin rather hard to achieve. You can top out with X10 damage, but only +4 Health Reduction.

Although there ARE work arounds.

I figured that a little bit of military grade exaggeration wasn’t entirely uncalled for. Fresh, condemned superhuman is gonna feel a bit extra.

Even if the honest realization is only you’ve gone from, absolutely no chance to a slim chance of surviving contact with the enemy, that little bit of hope is a hive that desperate people are going to ride. And if you got family to live beyond whatever mess is promising to kill you, take those risks and you’re glad for it.

If not, then you are likely just looking to burn out rather than fade away.

Do powers gained via the surprising power trait count towards the number of power sets that a character utilizes?

If a character has three bonus thematic powers and then goes up in rank and chooses four powers from different powers sets, do they lose their previously chosen bonus powers?

Surprising powers aren't considered part of a set. This doesn't mean you can take all your powers as Surprising. It's meant for an odd power. In your folks case Magic (mostly, others could apply). Or one that you need  a higher Rank for. When you get the right Rank, it quits being Surprising.

When you gain a Rank you don't lose powers. Period. At rank 2 you won't go from 4 of 4 plus a bonus, you'll go to 5 of 8. with 3 more allowed. You may still get 1 or two bonuses, depending on your number of sets. But if the first two new slots (of the three) are for 2 new power sets, then you've only got one slot left to spend. You can take a 3rd power set with that last slot, but not a 4th as you have no more empty power slots.

There are exceptions to this. If you're a telekinetic with Levitate, for instance, I'd let you drop levitate for Flight 1 so you can get Flight 2, but, mainly, the point is that your powers are growing, not shrinking. You shouldn't count on losing any of them.
